I tried to solve using the Quadriatic formula and can't solve, can you help?

If you can factor it is way easier then going through all the steps in the quadratic formula.

x^2-7x-1=-7

     get the equation to equal zero, to do that in the equation add 7 to each side

x^2-7x-6=0

      now factor the equation

(x-1)(x-6)=0

      set each possible answer to zero

x-1=0      so, x=1

x-6=0      so, x=6    

so the equation has two possible answers

x=1  and   x=6

You have to get rid of the x^2 first.you have divide (x^2-7x-1)1/2 or 2/1 to get rid of the power then from there you can solve for x.
