Pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Harris-c2330 has admitted that his erratic and below par performances in the recently wrapped up Commonwealth Bank series were owing to the fact that he tried too hard to succeed.
Harris returned to the ODI squad after a period of more than a year, for the triangular series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. However, the return was far from glorious – the 32-year-old took a mere 3 wickets in four innings, including an expensive
1 for 57 against India in Adelaide. This marked a drastic drop in his usual performances – he had previously claimed 6 scalps in two Test matches against India during the Border-Gavaskar series earlier this year.
“The main reason I put it down to is I really wanted to be back in that one-day team,” Harris explained. “After I got that opportunity I just tried so hard to be able to get wickets and bowl well, and in the end I tried too hard. It pushed me the other way,”
he said, adding that under normal circumstances he would have been relaxed, and consequently bowled better.
His inconsistency and obvious lack of form subsequently led to his exclusion from the Aussie ODI squad announced for the West Indies tour which is due to begin on March 16.
“I tried too over the top and ended up being dropped from the team, because I wanted it too much … it's no surprise that I'm not in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 now. But that's fine, purely my fault … I wasn't bowling well enough,” he admitted.
Returning from national duty, the right-hander joined Queensland, and credited coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Scott-Lehmann-c52487 with having calmed him down after the disastrous tri-series.
He claimed he was more relaxed, as opposed to crumbling under pressure, and happy to be with the Bulls, working on “those things that got me into the team in the first place.” In addition, he seems to have regained his rhythm again, after he took 3 for 29
