I trimmed the bushes on my home a bit too much and now they are turning brown. Will they turn green again?

They are turning brown towards the bottom and now it's spreading up towards the middle. What do I do? I didn't think trimming them too short would kill them.

  2. Not all shrubs are created equal!  It always helps to know what plants you are working with so you can better know what care they need.

Like the previous person said, it sounds like the shrubs are suffering from sunscald, a common malady in pruned/trimmed shrubs in the summer.  It's best to prune/trim a shrub right before it grows buds.

You may have a sage (salvia) plant...they are related to mints.  Or you may have a mint...either are very common and grow everywhere justabout.

Hmm, you say it's an evergreen?  Rosemary, perhaps?

  3. What you have done is opened up the lower leaves and branches to the sun and they are probably scorching or getting sunburned.  Keep the shrubs watered well and watch for new growth.  As long as the shrubs ahve well established root systems they should start to push out new growth with adaquat water within a couple of weeks.  If you have no new growth in or around that time then you may have killed them.  You may want to treat the shrubs with a general fertilizer of 10-10-10 to boost and promote new growth.  The type of shrub your over pruned also has something to do with what you can expect to happen.  Evergreens like junipers and arbovitae do not put out new growth readily and will be forever bald or brown in the pruned areas.  Broad leaf evergreens like azalea, hollies and ligustrum readily put out new growth when pruned, even severely.

  4. it depends on the situation

you should get a sprinkler and water your plants enough
