I turn my furnace off for summer i still hear gas flowing. do i turn the gas off also or does the pilot burn?

You will save gas if you turn the pilot off also.  Turn the gas valve to OFF at the furnace.  When you get ready to light it in the fall, change the filter, lubricate the motor, and clean everything up.

you might be hearing the water heater. mine are right next to each other and at first i thought the heat was trying to turn on, but my water heater was just keeping that shower water all steamy for me :)
