I am on dial-up through my ISP, and get no warning when my computer times out. Had finished my intro. and hit "preview" to check it when the "disconnect" screen appeared. I tried using my "back" button, hoping the message would come back up, but it was gone! For future, I will type as a MicroSoft Word document, save it, then cut-and-paste my message in... rather than have to do everything over... if it is lost for good!

  1. No.  If the data was accessible, you could have seen it when you hit the back button.  You could always check the History on your Internet menu bar.  But chances are, you will only get the blank page before you entered the data.

FYI, if your intro was part of your request to join a Yahoo! group, you are only allowed 200 characters anyway!  To retype 200 characters is not a big deal.

I use a DSL connection, every once in a while my WIFI or DSL connection drops and I lose data.

Although this won't help you now, but before I hit "preview," I always copy the data first (hi-lite and use the Control+C keys) - just in case.  Some Internet software is not set up that well (buggy) and I've lost all my info.  Generally, when I'm sending in a complaint or request for help on a consumer site.

Now if I hit preview and the screen is lost, I immediately paste (use the Control+V keys) the data into notepad (Word takes too long to load for temp data).  Most of the time, these info boxes only allow text (.txt) data anyway.

I hope this helps you in the future!

  2. that's always a bummer when that happens. posting on a Yahoo group from any ISP, the back button never works :)
