I understand how many spells they learn, but how many spells a Wizard can cast per day?

In Dungeons and Dragons 4.0, Do I get to cast an infinite amount of At-Will Spells, and spells in general, or am I still limited to the amount of times I can cast spells per day? If so, what is my limit?

  2. Don't have books in front of me, but IIRC the 'spellbook' spells (as opposed to those specifically listed as at-will/encounter/daily like Magic Missle, etc.) are daily powers that, unlike most powers, you can vary from day to day (I.e., take one one day and another the next).

  3. At will spells are exactly that, you can use them at will.  Any time you are allowed to act (sorry, if you're stunned or something, you're out of luck), you can use an at will spell, with no limit on the number of times you can use it per day.

An encounter spell can be used only once before you have to take a 5 minute break to recover it.  Normally, this means once per battle, but occasionally you might want to use one outside of combat.  The use of each encounter ability (spell) you have is tracked separately, you may use each one once.

Daily powers (spells) are the most potent abilities you have access to.  After you use one, you'll need to rest for 8 hours to get it back.

Wizards add a slight complication because they know more powers (twice as many daily and utility powers).  Each day they have to select half of those powers to be available that day.  They can use the available powers just as any other class would, the unavailable powers are exactly that, unavailable until you take another 8 hour rest to start a new day.
