Question:

I understand that people want unique names for their kids...but why...?

Why do they spell the names so weird? Like, honestly some of the names that I've seen posted on here are pretty scary. Why don't people name their kids normal names anymore? Or at least spell them normally? I'll admit that I don't like "traditional" names, but still.

  1. Well, i think that they spell their kids name different so it can stand out. And i guess sometimes they don't really think of how it will effect the child. I like traditional names too. But sometimes different names are good too. Because you wouldn't want everyone to be named emily, katie, or what not. My name is Codi. and my dad named me. He just personally liked the name. and i think that its pretty. its just when i meet people for the first time sometimes they question it, but sometimes they dont.

  2. Completely agree, this trend is really getting scary. Like dyslexia (or stupidity) are suddenly contagious.

What these parents fail to realize is that no matter how ~kre8tyve~ you spell Emily, her name will still be EMILY. Are they planning on letting the kid wear a name tag, or hold up a sign at the playground, instead of calling her? So that every parent will know that their Emily is sooooooo different from all the other thousands of Emilies? When she introduces herself, people will assume that her name is EMILY, not Emmaleiygh.

Seriously, if you want a unique name, well then maybe you shouldn't choose the one that has been at #1 in the US for the past 10 years.

Pick something outside of the top 10, top 100 or even 1000.

THEN you'll have a unique name, and teachers can breathe a sigh of relief. I would not want to have to remember which weirdo spelling belongs to which of the 5 Emilies, Madeleines or Jaydens in the class.

    ETA: LMAO

lt's not anger as much as frustration. Look, I used no exlamation marks. :)

This question was just perfect to vent what has been building up from browsing some of the questions here. I'm glad I'm not American, haha. Imagine the nursing homes in 70 years, filled with Jaydens, Aiydens and Madylynns. The horror, oh the horror.....

  3. I think it's their way of making a normal name a little more unique.  My friend named her daughter Emily but spells it EMILEE, it's one of the most popular names but the spelling is a way of making it her own.....

I personally went Lorelai for my daughter which I think is a unique name altogether... I would have spelled it the traditional way if I'd known this spelling wasnt the traditional (lorelei is)

WOW with the anger Sedora!!  IT's all going to be ok!

  4. I know. I just read a question where the woman asked which two names she should use out of Haylene, Kaynam, Michaela, Morghen, Mayalynn, Maelena, Amerosa, Miannah, and Brienah.

I think those sort of names seem kind of ghetto, tbh.

  5. I know, and I totally agree.

I once met triplets called Laiyton, Daiyton && Paiyton. True story.

I also once met a girl called Virginity Maria. No lie. Her mom was a strict Christian.

Some of the names I have come across on here are Horrsheite, Mo'Neek, La'Toiyah, and Edward (for a girl).
