I updated my ps3 on

i updated my ps3 on the new systems update that came out on the 30th july. then on the 3rd aug whenever i press the ps button on my remote it freezes. then i switch it off by the on/off switch on the back of it. also when i try to watch a dvd (not blue ray) i just get a black screen, and then have to switch off by the on/off switch at the rear of the machine.
