I upgraded to 2.0, but it still won't download the apps? (itunes question)?

Question

I have the older iPod Touch, and I just discovered the apps and I want to put them on my touch. but it won't. Most people say to get the software 2.0 for 9.95, but I'm not sure if I did it right. Last time I plugged the Ipod in, I did download something, but even then the apps wouldn't come on. Maybe I didn't get 2.0 and I just think I did. If so, how can I download 2.0 and get the apps on the ipod?

Here's a list of good FREE apps I have already downloaded:

- Jirbo Break ( ihope it is still free) -  anice game

- Bubbles (check it out) - you could create soap bubbles and pop them out - looks nice

- Bubble wrap - completely useless, but entertaining

- E-reader - for reading of e-books. Nice selection of old time classics for free. New stuff is not free.

- iPint - a virtual beer glass you could fill and empty

- Labyrinth Lite - another game

- Palringo - if you have ICQ and want to chat with your friends

- Weight Tracker -

- Week - it displays the current week number
