  1. 1 cup confectioners' sugar

    2 teaspoons milk

    2 teaspoons light corn syrup

    1/4 teaspoon almond extract

    assorted food coloring

    DIRECTIONS

In a small bowl, stir together confectioners' sugar and milk until smooth. Beat in corn syrup and almond extract until icing is smooth and glossy. If icing is too thick, add more corn syrup.

Divide into separate bowls, and add food colorings to each to desired intensity. Dip cookies, or paint them with a brush.

use vanilla corn syrup if you like.

if you still have fading color with this recipe, you need to get a better quality food coloring

  2. What is shiny cookie icing?  Sounds interesting.

Sometimes icing doesn't set if the cookies are too warm ,or too cold.  Room temp is best.

  3. Sounds like you are using poured fondant, and if it's dull, it is because you got it too warm/hot. Add a little water, and only heat it to just warm enough to pour it.

  4. I would recommend using Wilton food coloring for any type of frosting, they have it in the gel and powder.  The powder lasts longer as far as shelf life and will not change the consistency of the icing much, the gel is just as good I use those all the time, the colors will get slightly darker as the frosting sets.  It does not take much of them, they are really concentrated.  Where I live though the powder is much harder to find.
