  1. You blocked your number but the person you are calling does not accept calls from blocked #s. So you have to say your name and the person you are calling will answer the phone and hear a message about how someone is trying to reach them and then they will hear whatever name you have recorded. I'm pretty sure they cannot trace your call. They just don't want blocked calls coming through.

    Its called call intercept!

  2. It's a little phone feature to stop telemarketers. I have it on my phone line. Basically it comes down to if someone calls and the caller id is being blocked like for telemarketers, then it gets directed to a machine that asks for your name if you leave your recorded name then the person you called gets a call from the same thing that has you on hold and tells me who is calling and if I want to accept the call. Note all the time that the person is being called and told your name you don't know if they are there or not, until you get your called accepted.

  3. Yeah, we have the same thing.... AT&T's Privacy Manager will stop someone [or -thing] from calling via an unidentified phone number (or blocked/*67). Ifi call my house and dial *67 prior, it will go directly to that Privacy Manager system and ask to press 1 to un-block the number (my own of course), or 2 to record my name, but keep my number blocked.
