I used my friends credit card...?

I borrowed my friend's card during a financially tough time. i intended to use it only for gas, but ended up charging $800 to the card. I had (and still have) all intentions of paying off the card. I tired to login and check the account balance and schedule a payment, but it turns out she reported it as fraud!

I live in MN & did a bit research on the laws and it appears i could get up to five years & $10K fine.

What will happen?

Will I still get in trouble if i pay the account off right now?

How long will it take them to find me and charge me?

I'm seriously scared and didnt realize this would come back to bite me so badly.

  1. that is pretty messed up of your "friend". i would not make any attempt to log into the account again. if you have anyway of proving that the friend willing let you use the credit card, then they will be in trouble for making up the fraud. if they won't confess to letting you use the card or you can't prove it, yes i think you would be in trouble. I'm really not sure how long it will take to trace. i would try to get as much of the money together as you can. try talking to the friend and see what they were thinking reporting this as fraud.  I'm not sure this can be undone with out someone getting in trouble.

  2. There is probably not any way that you can avoid getting into trouble about it.  I don't mean to slap you on your hand but there is no way you should have charged up that much on someone else's account, even if it is your friend.  There is so much of that going on now a days and law enforcement is really cracking down on people who comment these types of crimes.  It won't take them long to find you.  I would just confess to what I did and hopefully the judge will understand your situation.  Don't just leave the situation out there and not contact someone.  That could only make it worse.  I hope that you will learn a really good lesson from this mistake.  Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.  Have a wonderful and productive day.

  3. So, when you say you borrowed it, do you mean you took the card without them knowing it?  Or did she allow you to use it, and you used more than the specified amount?  This is complicated, you should talk to her first, to see exactly what she did, and then I suggest you talk to a lawyer.

  4. I would not only pay it off immediately, but tell your friend what happened and hope for mercy.  If she doesn't want to press charges, consider yourself lucky and chalk this up to a very important lesson learned.  What you did was criminal and immoral.

  5. You need to tell your friend what you did. I hope you are scared because what you did is unthinkable! Pay it off now, because they will catch up with you... ever heard of video?

  6. I'd pay it off right away if possible.  It might not save you from fraud charges but could help.

  7. What do you mean "borrowed"?  Did you have you friend's permission or not?

  8. THE FIRST THING TO DO IS TALK TO YOUR FRIEND AND ADVISE THEM THAT YOU DID A VERY STUPID THING, THAT LOST TRACK OF THE AMOUNT AND YOU WERE FOOLISH. ALSO THEM KNOW THAT YOU WILL GIVE THEM ALL THE FUNDS TO PAY OFF THE WHOLE BALANCE. AFTER ALL THAT PRAY THAT THEY FORGIVE YOU AND THEN HAVE YOUR FRIEND CALL THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY TO ADVISE THEM THAT THIS WAS ALL A ERROR AND THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. IF YOU THINK TO PAY IT NOW ONLINE IT WILL ON;LY BE WORSE, CALL YOUR FRIEND AND HAVE A GREAT LONG CONVERSATION THAT YOU MADE A HUGH MISTAKE, AND BEG FOR FORGIVNESS. BUT DO NOT DO ANYTHING ON YOUR OWN, YOU WILL ONLY DAMAGE THE SITUATION EVEN MORE,,,

I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST,,, MAKE SURE THAT YOPU LEARN FROM THIS TO NEVER DO IT AGAIN...

    BEST REGARDS
