so yeah im 13 and i started to box when i was 11. my pops took me to a place that wasn't really a gym just some guys that went there to train. had a ring and bags and all that. So i went there and it was cool at first but they found out my pops was a cop and from then on they just didn't really ever warm up to me. When i got there and they were all outside playing basketball getting ready to start training and having fun i was inside just in the dark waiting to start. And when it was time i was always afraid of what they would say and all that. So i told my dad i wanted to stop going there. So we did but i still wanna learn how to box but i don't wanna go there. And next year when im in highschool i will see some of the kids that used to go there. Should i go back and just put up with them after its been about 2 years or should i just fined someplace else to go???

  1. I totally understand your point. The atmosphere of a gym is vital for the fun you get out of boxing (and you should get fun out of it). I would suggest to find a club, where the people don't care what you or your dad are. (The suggestion of a police athletic club is good). I know the situation myself. When i started my service for the prosecution, I was told that there are some clubs, where I would have been beaten up seriousely(and not in the ring, if you know what I mean) if they found out. But in my club, everybody is fine with that.

Don't give up boxing and just find another club with a better atmosphere.

    Good luck.

  2. Could make for a place to motivate you to train harder ya know?  It all depends on you.  You can win respect of your own and that ring and who your dad is won't matter anymore.  They say something about your dad, use it for motivation.  But being young, it can be hard to take those lemons and make lemonade.  My son endured this same situation at our gym as well, so I understand you situation.   I'm a police officer too, and I was proud that my son learned to overcome and use it to motivate him.

Train hard and do what you have to.   Good luck to you.

  3. u got big problems man..

  4. if your dad is a cop then ask him to find a police athletic club for you to go to. a lot of them have boxing there. also you can find boxing gyms in just about every city there is. just look online. type the name of your city and "boxing gym" into google and see what comes back. also try boxinghelp.com

also another source is to send an email to amateurboxing.com say you are in need of a boxing gym and say what city, state you live in and you should get a responce

  5. Apparently, you didn't tell your dad why you wanted to quit that gym.  You should tell him now, and then the two of you can work out together whether it would be best to go back there, or whether there is another gym where this won't be a problem.  But, if you are motivated, enjoyed learning and still want to box, the most important thing is, get back to a gym (whether that one or another).
