  1. Harvesting any type of wild food is a dying hobby.  I fill my freezer with several wild vegetables,  berries and mushrooms every year.  I also pick wild herbs for teas and culinary use.  Not many people do this anymore.  I learned many of the edible and medicinal plants from my grandmother and others of her generation.  Those people have died off years ago.  There aren't many people interested in learning much of that now although they enjoy the teas and soups I make.  Keep picking rose hips and using them yourself.  Share the tea with your friends and learn some more wild edibles.  Its a rewarding hobby.

  2. We are getting over-educatedd.  We learn more and more about less and less till we know everything about nothing.  A broad education, learning from observing and thinking about what you see and your surroundings are a lost art.  Typical is the current presidential campaign.  One candidate is an empty suit and is for change that even he can't define.

My mother fed us leaves of curly dock and lambs quarters and dandelion hearts as salad greens.  We ate mushrooms from the fields.  Chokecherries, currents, etc. as well as our own garden.

My wife taught food preservation as well as food preparation.  My granddaughters have had no such instruction.,
