I usually run about a 5 minute and 40 second mile. I would like to get that down to 5 minutes within 3 months. Any tips on how to do that?

  1. I assume you have been doing distance work so you probably need to work on your stress and pace endurance.

You should be doing intervals on the track 2 days each week.

Run repeat 400s and 800s at your race pace with limited rests.

One day run 5 to 6 times 400 at 1:15 with 2 minutes rest.

The next interval day run 3x800 at 2:30 with 3 minutes rest.

The idea is you are conditioning your body to race at the correct speed so you can do so during the race.

You can do a 1200 time trial to see if you can hold that pace for the race.

  2. You should do some longer distance work outs to improve your endurance. Bringing your mile time down 40 seconds in 3 months is difficult though

  3. A 5-minute what?  Mile?

  4. Train with track workouts, as stated above, including 200 repeats, 800-200 repeats, 400 repeats, etc. and mileage, 5+ miles a day...

    It is definitely physically possible!

  5. that is not a question is more like a statement !!!
