After 11 months working in Ryanir, based in Bournemouth, the company sacked me in less then 3 minutes justyfing it saying that my performance was not good enough for the company standars.

And that s what is happaning all around Europe......is it possible that in the UK there are no laws at all that protect poor cabin crew members?

I m convinced that they don t give a **** just because 80% of us is from other country so not really familiar with the british employment law.....

please give me suggestions to help me and al the other people who aspire to be cabin crew in Ryanair, who are now being trained or who are already working for a company that doesn t allow workers to join any kind of workers association...(trade unions).....thank you very much in advance....( sorry for my english, i m italian)

  1. Firstly they can not stop you for being a member of a Trade Union, that is illegal.

They have discouraged you by saying they do not recognise the TU movement but that's fine; the union will recognise them!!

First thing to do is get in touch with your relevant union who will be happy to help you even if you are not a member but wishing to join, just explain that it was suggested that the company didn't allow it.

  2. you will have been on a probationary period anyways and it is on this probationary period that you performance and working relationships will be closely monitored your grievance is with Ryanair so you need to take it up with them in writing which you do have the right to do and ask them to outline what made them reach their decision so you know for future reference ....

also with airlines like ryanair you arent like charter or scheduled flights you are seasonal workers which means sometimes you are laid off unfortunately

but you do need to speak to ryanair

  3. You might have a claim against them despite the fact that the statutory protection given after 12 months employment does not apply. This is because your contract of employment still governs how they can/cannot dismiss you. You would need to take your contract to an employment lawyer for advice. However, I suspect that Ryanair would be very difficult and you would have to be prepared to go to court about this. That would require a lot of time, hassle and could be very costly. Although this is not my area of expertise, I have to agree with other contributors that you just put it down to experience and move on.

    Good luck

  4. I was cabin crew with them and I didnt want to leave my job as I loved it but Im not going to go into reasons here but they gave me no choice and I had to leave.

  5. Unless you can prove some sort of discrimination was involved with their decision then I'm afraid that there is nothing you can do. Employees do not get much in the way of employment rights in the UK until they have been employed for a full year.

Sorry - but just concentrate on getting another job and try to put this bad experience behind you.

By the way, given that you are Italian and in the UK exercising your EU treaty rights (i.e. working) you should be eligible to claim Job Seeker Allowance so call 0800 055 6688 to start your claim.

  6. go to your local citizens advice . should manage to give you all the info you need
