  1. Being upside down in water is never fun, but the first thing that I teach beginner kayakers is how to get out of the boat while upside down.  It is important to learn how to "wet exit" and become somewhat comfortable with it.  You should practice it in a pool, and work on your "eskimo roll" there as well.  You'll feel much more confident and safer after a little practice.  Learn the "extended paddle" roll first, and become familiar with the "self-rescue" wet entry technique.  Practicing is part of the fun of boating.

Have fun, be safe, and happy boating!

  2. I think thats pretty normal to feel anxious about doing something contradicting what your inner senses are telling you is (or is not) safe to do! I think thats why we all learn to roll so quick, cos no-one likes the capsizing bit!!

    happy paddling!

  3. just learn to role
