Have you considered flying?  Volaris Airlines charges $749 PESOS which is less than $75 US Dlls.  (One Way)  -- And you are there in a couple of hours.

Fly from the TJ airport, even if the cheapest flight is to Mexico City and then take the bus.  You DO NOT want to spend 32 hours on the bus.  There are cheap flights from TJ to Guadalajara and Mexico City.  The bus ride from Mexico City is only seven hours.  Have a good trip.

My aunt did this route just about a month ago.  You should be able to find multiple lines at the main terminal.  Expect a great deal of $50 one way however time of travel is ~32 hours.
