  1. For a year? Not possible unless you get kicked out, which you don't wanna do, trust me!

  2. stay where for a year? The military? You cannot enlist for just one single year. You can enlist for 15 months though!

"The Army, faced with a severe and growing shortage of recruits, began offering 15-month active-duty enlistments nationwide, the shortest tours ever. The typical enlistment lasts three or four years; the previous shortest enlistment was two years. Maj. Gen. Michael Rochelle, the head of the Army Recruiting Command, said 2009 could be even worse than this year, a continuation of “the toughest recruiting climate ever faced by the all-volunteer Army.”

(and for all you meanies out there, YES I know the correct term for a female hero is "heroine"...i was just being silly)

  3. Unfortunately, you can't join the military for a year. Enlistment contracts are for either 4 or 6 years. There are only very specific things that can get you out early. For example medical reasons or if you get into some pretty big trouble with them. Needless to say getting kicked out of the military is NOT a good thing, especially since it will ruin you in the civilian world for good. But if you think you'd be able to stand military life for 4-6 years, you should definitely talk to a recruiter. Military benefits are AWESOME! And it's a great choice if you're not sure what you want to do with your life or if you don't really have the means to continue your education after high school. It can be a bit of hard life sometimes for its members and their families but the service will definitely take care of you in a way NO other job field will, and in the midst of a recession and a failing economy, the guarantees you get in the military mean a lot.
