  1. Okay, based on your previous questions you are only 13 years old, and are also struggling with major body image issues and eating disorders. You need to work on that stuff first, because to be a good mom you need to be healthy and to feel good about yourself. If you are parenting a daughter, you want her to love her body. And you deserve to love yours! So I urge you to get serious and supportive counseling about this now.

As to your specific question, since you are 13, it would take at least 18 years under current rules, since you need to be over 30 (and married at least 2 years) to apply. So maybe you'd like to consider other options...

The rest of my answer is cribbed from my answer to another teen that thought it would be cool to adopt from China:

    **********************************

You're young, there is plenty of time to think about when and how (and if) you want to form a family. I urge you to go to college first, and spend a few years on your own and then (if you choose to marry) a few years married, before you start a family. There are so many things it is harder to do when you are a parent. I especially urge you to travel and see the world. Travel to China, for example, maybe you'd even like to live there!

Once you are ready to settle down and have a family, adoption can be a good option, but it isn't something to do because it seems like a romantic idea. If in a few years, you are serious about adoption, I urge you to consider adopting through foster care. You can do that when you are still single and the age limit would be much lower, though you would still have to have a stable home (could be a rental) and stable income.

I have a daughter from China, and know many other children adopted from China. They are real kids, not "China Dolls" -- not saying you think that, but many who think they want to adopt from China do. Children adopted from China have all the same issues as any other children--and in many cases more, because they are adopted, and have lost their first parents, and their birthright culture and language. Many times they have health issues, or developmental issues, or trauma issues. And they will face racism that white parents are often ill-equipped to help them deal with. Parenting adopted children is parenting plus, and you have to be prepared for that.

Also, no offense at all to you, but I hope that by the time you are over 30 there will be no need for Chinese children to be adopted to other countries. I hope that there will be very few children available for adoption, because they have stayed with their first families. And for those that are truly orphaned, I hope that adoptive parents are readily available in China. Being adopted by white parents overseas (like me) is about 5th best for these kids, after being raised by their natural parents, by family members, by an adoptive family in China, and by overseas Chinese. Not to say that you will not be an awesome parent, but it is easier for children to grow up with people like themselves, and with as few big changes as possible--and being adopted to another country by people of another race is a huge change and a huge challenge.

Good luck with your life! It is great that you are exploring all sorts of different things. Don't rush into settling down too early. I'm sure that when you are ready you will have a wonderful family.

  2. I recommend speaking with a local reputable adoption agency that specializes in Chinese adoptions.  They will be able to provide you with the best information.

    Good luck.

  3. research the different sites that specialize in adopting Chinese babies or international adoption.  My neighbors said their wait for their daughter was almost 2 years (22 months), some places say the wait is between 2 and 4 years because of the demand.

  4. Chinese adoptions, esp for girls is taking a long time...two years or more.
