I am currently an economics major in college I'm a freshman.

I have taken Micro and Macro economics and passed with B and B+, I have also been an assistant manager at an apartment building for 3 years, my mother was the manager, and I have also taken a business management class.

So will this get me the assistant manager position at a local retail store?

  1. Most Radioshacks' are franchise stores. You might need something more to be assistant manager. They don't hire that way. They use the buddy system.

  2. Yes it's good enough, but bring the confidence with it like your the capable type attitude is everything or lack of.

  3. I'm a manager in retail.  Your education looks great.  What we also look at is your experience, work history, and are you head-strong, or willing to learn more?

If you walk into an interview and remotely look down on me for not getting college educated, and treat me in any way that may make me think that you won't listen to advice or learn from someone who doesn't have the college background then I won't bother to go any further.

If you have a job history that is sporadic, I will think you won't last and might just give you part time to see how long you will stick around.  But based on that, you won't get manager right away.  I look for people who stick it out in a job for longer than 6 months.

I work for a very large retail company that deals with millions of dollars and strict policies.  About the same as a larger Radioshack in the bigger cities.

    Hope this helps a little.

  4. the degree really helps but it depends on the type of person you are. the managers need to see the way you interact. good managers can tell who is a good worker just by talking with them.

  5. Well, if you used run-on sentences and words in your resume like "wanna" as you have used in the question, then no, you  won't get the job, because of a lack of communication skills. Otherwise, maybe. You have nothing to lose by applying for the job. Any manager is going to want to see some form of supervisory experience when looking for an assistant manager. It would be best not to mention the apartment manager was your mother, as that might be interpreted as you getting the job through nepotism, not demonstrated skill and experience.

  6. idk you tell me sir lol

  7. Listen man,

They aren't going to care if you got a B in an intro econ class or if you were a manager at your moms business.

What they will care about is how you interact and work.

Give them a resume that defines and clearly states your objective ( to be a manager, gain experience etc.) and let them know your intentions

I doubt that you would get hired right away for the mgmt position.  When i was about 20 i worked at a department store for a few months and the manager like the way i worked and offered me a mgmt position....

I didn't take it b/c those jobs suck...good luck - someone has gotta do the crappy jobs

  8. I would have to SEE your resume.. I have seen a resume with miss spellings and all kinds of mess, layout, what you say about the jobs you have done is huge!!!! And can say more then what just a job title does!!!
