  1. sorry to advice you that you must be the best of the bests pilots flying... but dont give up, its not impossible. you must qualify for that

  2. That was always my dream when I went to air shows too...

Unfortunately, yes. The Red Aroow pilots are only display pilots for about 3 years max and have to have lots of experience in military jets before hand.

Otherwise, and if I was any good at physics, I'd be up doing the gypo rolls with them now :)     xx.

  3. Yes. Some of the red arrow pilots have had to go to Irak  etc...

For your future prospects look at this:

    Good luck!

  4. Sounds like you've got quite an ambition.

First you will have to enrol in the Royal Air Force as a pilot. You can go to a recruitment office near your area, where you will endure "death by PowerPoint", a very long and boring presentation on the history and role of the RAF. Then you can fill in the forms to start you on the road.

After  3 months of selection, if you pass the medical, mental and physical tests, and the Force still wants you, you will be given a choice of suitable roles, for example helicopter pilot. If you're lucky they will offer you a fast-jet pilot role for your Red Arrow goal, and you will begin your flight training at an RAF base.

Don't worry if at this point you want to back out, because up until you receive your "wings" on the final day of training you can drop out no problem. When you pass you can apply to join the Red Arrows stunt team, though you must prove yourself a capable pilot before they will let you try out for them. You must still serve on tours of Duty (probably in Afghanistan or similar) so yes, you will have to go to war if ordered. But if you're lucky enough to become a member of the display team, you won't be sent away as often as other pilots.

You've gotta be fit, mentally strong and have the desire to achieve your potential to get there, but it's by no means impossible. I wish you luck

  5. Have you done any aerobatic fliying? I recommend beginning courses now, if you have not already. What certifications do you have or are you starting from scratch?

From what I've read, heard, etc., prior military service is a def. requirement. I would begin with those channels before I spent any further money on civilian training. Ask your area recruiter (ask several for accuracy and non-schauvenism) what the proper steps are.

Ignore the idiots and welcome to the aviation community (full of strange men).

I won't wish you luck becuase I know if you want this, you'll GET it.

  6. Uuh, yes.  The Red Arrows are part of the RAF.  They're piloted only by their most skilled pilots.

  7. A bit of a bugger when you have to get a man to park it for you, though....

  8. A very good ambition and I sincerely hope you make it. The following could be a possible course to follow:-

    1) Join the RAF

    2) Prove your worth and join a fighter squadron

    3) Excel in flying and gain experience

    4) Qualify as an Instructor (believe me it helps)

    5) Apply for Red Arrows when a slot becomes vacant

    6) Prove yourself in formation flying as wingman & leader

Fly as a member of the world best display unit.

No - you do not have to go to war or any such thing.
