  1. How does your husband/partner feel about this?

  2. Many adoptive parents DO nurse.  It takes a lot of work.  You need to get in touch with a lactation consultant.

  3. That is amazing that you want to do that.  I know it is possible but I didn't know for sure so I looked it up.

    This should help.

  4. A newborn baby will latch on even if adopted- the baby isn't concerned about you not being the birth mother, as long as he/she is being fed!

A bigger concern is producing milk. You will have to take supplements prior to the baby's birth that help your body produce milk for the baby.

You would also have to be at the hospital or place of birth when the baby is born, so you can nurse right away after birth to begin the bonding process.

It has been done by many women- it's great that you are considering it!

Some books you may find helpful are: The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, and Natural Family Living.

  5. You don't have the milk to breastfeed my dear. Theoretically you can stimulate lactation but it would not be enough to properly nourish a child.

  6. yes you can... all you need to do is talk to a lactation consultant and they will provide you with the information you need on how to start the process... my sister adopted a baby and breast feed her and my sister was NEVER pregnant.. so dont let people stear u wrong... contact your hosptial and get the numbers to lactation consultants... that would be my first step...

    good luck with the adoption!!!!

  7. Well, since you weren't pregnant, you won't produce milk.

  8. It takes months in advance before the baby arrives. I've read about it in a book called what to expect the first years. Also, the baby has to latch on to you right away after birth ( no other nipples that would cause confusion )

I suggest you read that book and really prepare yourself
