  1. If you plan to breed them, keep them the same species because these breeds are worth something.  I believe, here in Southern California, the Bernese is much more rare.  If you don't want to breed them (and there's plenty of reasons not to), get one of each - it's such a good idea, I just might do that for my son whose godparents are swiss!  Thanks for the idea!

  2. I suspect you are a very kind and caring person, wanting two big dogs to love and hug.

But really, this is a very, very stupid idea.  First of all,it is not fair on the dogs as it sounds as if you know nothing about the breeds.

Secondly, as others have said, both breeds have health problems, and to breed from either one will need careful analysis of their pedigrees, etc.

Can I suggest reading the book "999 and other Other Working Dogs" which tells the history of these dogs, describes how the genuine St. Bernards are bred in Switzerland, describes the work that Bernese do - and will give you an understanding of these delightful but difficult breeds.

  3. Maybe you should consider rescuing each of the breeds- so many dogs with no homes...why make more?

Please spay and neuter- it's the right thing to do.

  4. don't breed dogs on purpose dude, you're just going to end up leaving some of them homeless. plus you'll have drooling and shedding all over the place.

  5. Will you make up your mind, first it's labs now it's St. Bernards and Bernese Mountain dogs, which breed do you want??

And you shouldn't breed to pures to make a mutt that's just irresponsible.

  6. So you want to get these 2 dogs so you can breed them?? BAD IDEA!!!!

  7. You buy the dog that YOU want, of course not until you've done research on ALL of them.

But really... C'mon fella... make up your mind.  You wanted a Golden Retriever, then a Lab - but not sure which colour, now you can't decide on whether to get a Berner or St.Bernard??  This is all in a few days!

Annnd, you want a horse, a parrot...

What next?  A gorilla or a monkey?

You're a troll, or an awfully confused young man.

  8. WHY!!!!???? do you want to breed MUTTS? YES!! MUTTS!!

you won't get a dime for them, and in most likely hood, i'll soon get e mails saying they're in a kill shelter about to be euth'd "can someone please save them!!"

6 MILLION pets were euth'd last year!

you're not responsible enough to have a goldfish!

  9. whatever you buy get them fixed.  no babies, no worries.

  10. is there a purpose in breeding these two breeds or are we running short on homeless dogs and abused/neglected dogs

  11. I am confused....you want to buy a St and a Berner and BREED them????? You are going to breed to dogs together that will have major health issues. How do I know....

because NO reputable St or Berner breeder would sell you a pup just to breed them.....

    ADD

Starred you Q for the Berner and St owners on YA...they will tear you apart...can't wait:)

  12. NO! buy each but you just have to have them spayed/neutered.

  13. Wait. You know nothing about breeding, and you want to buy two dogs to breed? You want to buy two dogs if different breeds to breed? Ugh. Not a good idea. Why would you even consider it?

If you'd like a dog, that's fine. If you'd like to breed, that's fine, BUT you MUST take the time to research and learn BEFORE breeding. This takes YEARS. Breeding isn't something you do on a whim. It's not a game. You'll want to start with quality, registered dogs with excellent bloodlines. Be sure they're registered with a reputable kennel club (AKC, CanadianKC, UnitedKC). Show them and get all proper genetic tests completed. Only breed purebreds. Take at least 2 years to learn all about breeding. Get a mentor to help you out. Oh, be sure you have lots of money (thousands) available. Breeding is EXPENSIVE. You'll make no money if you breed responsibly, which is the only way anyone should breed.

Please. You don't know anything about breeding, so you shouldn't be. Leave it to people who are breeding for the betterment of the breed. If you want a pet quality purebred that will be fixed when its old enough, that's great. There's no good reason for you to breed, especially mix breeds.

  14. Their puppies will be huge but i think that they will be adorable. but you should watch out since they are both very big dogs, make sure that their family doesn't have a big history of certain diseases or else they will be more likely to get it. Hip Displacia ( or something like that ) is common in big dogs so watch out for that!

  15. What on earth do you mean your worried about their babies???

I am very confused, are you looking to breed these 2? If so then i am horrified.

Enough said, leave the Berners alone, you don't deserve to own such a special dog.

Continuing on from this someone has mentioned you wanted a GR and other breeds??? What on earth are you planning on doing??

God save the dogs and hope no one allows you a pup.

  16. You shouldn't do this because you clearly have NO idea what you are getting into. You just want to be able to say that you have these two huge dogs, that's all.
