  1. I have to admit I find the whole promise ring trend to be pointless. It's supposed to mean that the you promise that you and your partner will be together forever, or you promise one day you'll ask your partner to marry you. As for the first meaning, there is no forever. All things have an end, including relationships. Ideally, it's till death do us part. But death is an end. It's not forever. As for the second meaning, I don't want someone to promise they'll one day ask me to marry them. If my partner wants to marry me, he'll ask. If he doesn't, he won't. I don't want false promises.

For the above, I recommend you forgo the promise ring for your girlfriend. Instead, just do your best to show you care for your girlfriend every day. Let him know on a regular basis that you appreciate him, even when things are less than perfect. If you have to fight, fight fairly. No name calling, no bringing up old issues. Remember that you care for this person and that doesn't stop when you're fighting. This is far more important in a relationship than anything resembling a promise ring.

  2. a promise ring is not an engagement ring you do not propose with it.  It is usually a small diamond or your class ring and you are saying Want us to be a couple.  In time we could become engaged. Most rings come in one size and then are sized at the jewelers.

  3. A promise ring could be ANY style of ring! Any stone (or no stone) and any metal as far as I believe.  Save money for the engagement ring if that ever comes around.  Does she wear a ring, or any rings now?  You could always sneak one of her rings away and take it to a jeweler.  And usually, if a jewelry store sizes for free, it's standardly on a more expensive ring (as sizing after an initial free sizing is about $150-$200; the ring must usually be of greater value than $300.)

    Hope that helps!

  4. A promise ring is a ring you give to your significant other promising to not have s*x till marriage and or your only going to be with them! an engagement ring is what you give the girl when your propose to her, marriage kinda thing... my x gave me a promise ring and actually got his mom one day at dinner to take off my ring i had on try it on her finger to see where it lands then when they went to the store she just used the measurement off her finger! promise rings can go anywhere from 25-200 dollars! depending on if you get a diamond or not! now if its just a promise ring i would go for a ring that had two hearts intertwining... i think thats pretty! go to a james avery or somewhere like that those are your best bets to find a good one!

    Happy hunting and best wishes!

  5. so are you looking for a promise ring or engagement ring?

I would say for diamond, it could cost from 300 to 3000.  depending on size, clarity, blah blah.

If it's an engagement ring, you probably want to talk to her mom or a close friend to see what her preference on style would be.

With either, you don't have to know an exact size;  the vendor should offer to size it for free after you give it to her.  For normal sized girl hands size 7 is probably the place to start.  Mine was a 7, but was sized to a 6 afterwards.  Size isn't a huge deal.  Just talk to the person you buy from and ask their suggestions.

  6. A promise ring is a token that some day you will want to ask her to marry you.  It's like a going steady ring.  It should be a ring that she will be able to wear on her right hand once you do propose and give her an engagement ring.  Go to a reputable jeweler in your area, and get a size 7, that's usually the average size.  But, if it doesn't fit, the jeweler will size it for you when you take her in with it (after you give it to her.)  A promise ring need not be all diamond, it can be of any stone, perhaps with diamond accents.  Prices vary depending on what you get, and for a promise ring, I'd go with a nice stone with diamond accents, and wait for the engagement ring to go really special.  Make sure it's at least 14 karat gold (yellow or white).

You can tell your girlfriend that one day you hope to ask her to marry her, and would she accept this promise ring and be your promised?  And give her some flowers too when you do this, that's really special.  Maybe like three roses.  (I love you.)  Good luck!
