  1. Work on your poker face. Stand at ends in front of the mirror with different poker hands facing you. Study your face structure. Eyebrows raise, eyeballs popping open. Big grin? Lost those.

Plus what are you intending to do when the sure bet loses? And you have zero cash on you and the rent is due?

    BUDGET YOURSELF!

PS must be 21 years or older to gamble in Nevada state.

Also don't down any alcohol prior or during the game. Good nights sleep is good. Drink coffee/caffeine to stay alert. Like 1 cup worth. Depending on your reaction to caffeine.

  2. Yes, do it now. Poker is really easy. Let me know where you're playing too, I want to be at your table. ;)

  3. Theres an old saying with poker.....

"It takes 5 minutes to learn, and a lifetime to master."

If you really want to make money it will take lots of work. And lots and lots of luck.

  4. Winning money at poker is easier said than done. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of bad players playing online, but if you're new to the game you can expect to lose money while you learn. Luckily, you can play for very small stakes, and not lose too much.

If you apply yourself, and actually learn the game (unlike most people) you will most likely win your money back. There are lots of people who play online that view poker as gambling, and don't take the time to learn, and understand the game.

It's a fun game that will teach you many things that you can use away from the tables. Give it a try. Stick to a big poker site, like Full Tilt Poker (my fav), Poker Stars or Ultimate Bet. There are small stake games going all hours of the day. Depost the minimum, and play the smallest stakes available. You'll have loads of fun.

Also, start reading some books. Phil Gordon's Little Green Book is good. So is Play Poker Like the Pros, by Phil Hellmuth. And some good dvds include Howard Lederer's Secrets of No Limit Holdem, and More Secrets of No Limit Holdem.

  5. How can you not even know how to play and make a judgement that it doesn't look that hard ?

It's an easy game to learn to play; It's a difficult game to master... You have to know how to read peoples emotions and actions, be able to recall every bet and raise made for a clue as to what they're playing, You have to know the statistics for each scenario...

  6. Do not use real money! until you are ABSOLUTELY confident you can win on a regular basis. There are many people who make a great living from cheating people who are new to the game.

  7. Unless you have an adequate bankroll and are willing to take the game seriously I wouldn't try.  Playing poker for a living (if this what you mean) is not an easy thing to do.

What you see on tv is not real life.  The shows and tournaments you view on tv are highly edited showing only the major hands.  They do not show (and can not show) the thought processes that the pros use to make their plays.

If you are seriously considering making a career of poker, I suggest you start with a good bankroll and a JOB.  While you are learning you are not going to make enough money (unless you are extremely lucky at the start) to pay your bills and clothe/feed/house yourself.

Once you have picked up the ins and outs of the game, you can start building a bigger bankroll from your wins.  The only time that you would give up your real job is when you have a big enough bankroll to cover your real life expenses (food, clothing, housing, bills, etc.) and have enough left over to cover your poker playing expenses (tournament fees, cash game buy-ins, etc..)  Mind you, this means you have built up your bankroll by CONSISTENTLY winning and have not just got lucky a few times.

To make a living at poker you have to consider it a job just like any other job.  You will find to be a consistent poker winner that you are puting in more hours at poker than any 9-to-5 job.

  8. The game is alot easier when you can see everyones cards like on TV. But definitely get into it! It's super fun. Just don't expect to win right away.

  9. Yes, the poker field needs another fish.

  10. Don't expect to win money right away - keep in mind that what you see on TV are specific situations. There are many factors that determine how you play certain hands, and the only way to learn is through experience. It is an easy game to learn, but the more you play the more you'll see that there is a lot more to it than just the cards you're dealt.
