I do not know arabic, so the only way I can memorize it is by repeating words 5 or 6 times, and considering the verses are so long, it'll take too long. Is there an easier way??

I've already memorized a couple of long ones (hujurat & Rahman) but those are different; any tips?

  1. Assalamu Alaikum,

It is a miracle of the Holy Quran that it can be memorized word by word both by Arabs and non-Arabs. One needs not know Arabic to memorize it. There are millions of Huffaz around the world, the Majority are Non-Arabs. But if you refer to the meaning of words in Albaqara, you will start to gradually understand the other parts also. Because the words in the Holy Quran are repeated over and over again. A same word may come at many verses and many Surahs. So you can concentrate on learning the meaning later also. Memorizing is not making us understand as what many think. So knowing a meaning helps but both Arab and non Arab takes almost same time to memorize the whole Quran. Depends on the intellect and help from Allah.

For me the easiest way to learn was listening to a good Audio of my favorite Qari. Repeatedly listening to a single part which is about to learn makes it easy to memorize. Most of Albaqara was easy to learn except when came to the verses of Talaq and all those subjects in the second half of Juz-2. I memorized it at a time I knew no more than very few words in Arabic. Nothing means nothing of the meanings of Holy Quran. I am trying to learn meanings of those learned now.. Alhamdulillah. To study and understand we read, to memorize we have to recite loudly. Because it is more through our ears we memorize and less we use the eyes. So reading aloud and listening to a good Qari helps a lot. So you must be determined and continues in your efforts of memorizing and then revising. It is one part which is memorizing and it is bigger part to revise and keep it by heart. May Allah help you brother,

PS: There are many Islamic sites teaching ways of memorizing which will be helpful. Here is one http://english.islamway.com/bindex.php?s...

  2. Good Luck

I never intended to memorize Surah Yasin but I recited so many times every day that now I know it by my heart.

  3. Here are two very good websites for online Quran memorization, though the second seems to be having temporary problems (I like the second better, it provides translations as well):

Listening to about 3-5 verses a day or 3 days a week, depending on how good your memory is, should help you pick up on the verses well. You can choose which Surahs and verses to memorize, and you can have it repeat as many times as you want with the choice of a specific reciter you like to listen to. Reading the transliterations while listening to the verses will also help with retaining those verses, here is a good website to follow reading while listening to Surat Al-Baqarah:

You might also want to download Surat Al-Baqara to your ipod and listen to it before you go to bed so you can constantly be reminded of the verses and it'll stick better.

Hope this helps and good luck :)

  4. listen to it and read it everyday...

    Good Luck! :)

  5. brother, the way you mentioned is the way to go.  You can use the help of hearing it repeatedly, this helps, BUT you still should take your time and memorise through repeatation.

One problem if you only memorised by listening is, you memorise a lot of it with rythm and the like and therefore when you can't recall the verse or word, you have to go with the rhythm to remember.

If you know even little bits of Arabic, this helps you understand what the verse is saying roughly and might help you to remember.  Also, if you are following translation while memorising, you might also catch up on a lot of Arabic.

Just be regular, break the verse into parts if u need to, take your time as there is no hurry to complete, as long as you have a good sincere intention, and are putting an effort to memorise and understand it, May Allah make it easy and a way for you, ameen.  And May He accept all your efforts as 'eebaadah. ameen.

  6. The way I remember Surahs is by listening to recordings of them! To me it's like listening to a song over and over and over, then eventually you know the exact words! !

  7. start from the start of surah baqarah! lol duh bro...but good..keep it up..and stay dedicated!

  8. Get a recording and a printed transliteration, learn it like it was a song.

  9. wow

    good 4 U .

Actually I want to memorize it 2 and I speak Arabic which would make it easier 4 me

You can listen 2 it recitated by one of the holy mosques' sheikhs

or on the websites mentioned above.

    God help you insha allah.

    best of luck

  10. well I dont speak arabic, I can read and pronounce words pretty well..

What I suggest you do to learn this beautiful surah, is to play 10 ayats at a time with a transliterated quran that has the words in arabic written out in english to help you along..

then play back one at a time with the quran in front of you and read it as it is recited, this will help you. not only are you visually learning, u are learning by ear as well
