  1. Go to the UK or Ireland, the surfing is usually c**p but the sharks are virtually non-existent.

  2. Just try to find non shark infested places to surfand if you can make sure you have partner to get help if you need it.

  3. You're WAY more likely to die in a traffic accident on the way to the beach.

  4. The only answer is for you to, either, get over that fear, or don't surf.

Sharks LIVE in the ocean, while you are just visiting.  Sharks live in almost all parts of the ocean, so there are, virtually NO absolutely safe, no shark surfing spots.  The thing to consider is that shark attacks are extremely rare.  You stand a much better chance of getting killed driving to the beach than of ANYTHING dangerous happening on the water.  Even if you consider EVERYTHING that could go wrong IN the water, includind jellyfish stings, baraccuda attacks, head getting bonked by a surfboard, run over by a jetski, drowning, etc, driving a car is much more risky.

  5. that is the dumbest excuse. there will be no sharks

  6. thats like the worst excuse ive heard lol

well go to a beach during surf hours because the whole day has been public swim so if ther was any shark sighting they would post it you dont have anything to worry about

  7. If you are afraid of sharks and want to be careful about surfing, then you should follow these pointers.

    1. Do not swim in dusk or dawn settings, this is when sharks come out to hunt and it is easy for them to mistake swimmers for seals when they can't see as well.

    2. Do not surf in cloudy water, as mentioned above, sharks attack seals and when they can't see that you're not a seal, they will be more prone to attacking.

    3. If you are bleeding, wait until it stops to go in the water. Sharks can smell blood from far away.

    4. Know what kind of sharks populate the area you are in. If there are no sharks, then there is nothing to worry about.

    5. If a shark does happen to attack, put it in the eyes or the nose.

Even with all these precautions, please remember; Don't be paranoid. Shark attacks are exceedingly rare. More humans are killed by dogs every year than sharks. Just learn to respect the sharks and the ocean. The Ocean is exactly like the jungle, people wouldn't go into the amazon unprepared for the danger, but they go into the ocean wearing bikini's and swimming trunks. Just be aware of your enviornment in order to stay safe.

    Have fun surfing :)

  8. This is the top reason why people dont want to surf. if you really love the sport, it doesnt really matter. there is a very slim chance for you to be attacked by a shark. I've seen one beofore while i was surfing and i live in NJ. All i did was just stayed still for a couple of seconds and then i just kept on surfing. Dont be scared, if you see one in the water, be very calm and dont panick. Good luck.

  9. surfing sucks anyway, it's not worth the risk.

  10. Who isn't scared of sharks?

You have a better chance of winning the lottery than being attacked by a shark.

  11. try waveboarding instead

  12. I have the same problem im terrified of sharks but I love to surf. The best thing to do is to go out there and when your out there well at least for me a feeling takes over your body and you basically forget about everything around you and surfing becomes your main focus. Just before you go out study the waters and check the lifeguard stand for any warnings

  13. Do you realize you are more likely to be stung by a Jelly Fish in the Ocean and die than to be attacked by a shark and die? Last year in the U.S. there was only 1 fatality due to shark attack and 86 fatalities due to jelly fish stings...Sharks don't like Human meat since there is not enough fat content (we don't taste good...they like seals) but surfers are prime targets for sharks since when we lie on the board we look like seals in the water...but even if a shark bumps you and takes a little nibble he is more likely to just swim off than to eat you...SURF AWAY...We Do...

  14. Well, somebody asks this or a similar question every couple weeks. I have been surfing since '66, and since then I have had two, "Close Encounters". One was while I was scuba diving, and the shark scared my buddy and I right into the boat. The second, while surfing didn't really bother me, and I kept right on surfing.

Wherever there are oceans, there are sharks. You don't see the beaches littered with the dismembered bodies of surfers, do you?

You have a far more likely chance of getting run over by a beer truck walking through the mall parking lot than you do of being bitten by a shark while surfing.

I live in a city, where people do all of the killing, and I feel much safer out in the water with the sharks.
