  1. The 4.2 is a good engine with max torque in lower RPMs (240lb-ft @1800 rpm) where the 4.0 has 225lb-ft @ 4000rpm. Alot of people put the 4.2 crank in the 4.0 to make a stroker.. or they swap the head/intake/exhaust manifold to the 4.2 liter for the fuel injection and better flow.   The 4.0 has better HP (190@ 4750rpm) where the 4.2 has 150@ 3800.  Though I have never run my 4.0 that high into the RPMS..

If you can find a donor vehicle the swap shouldnt be that expensive. They are almost identical engines but alot of the problem will be wiring though I believe Painless wiring may offer a harness for this swap.

  2. The expense is going to be tremendous and I think you will find that the end result will be disappointing.  That inline six is an iron horse of engines.  It produces a wider torque band and they can last forever.  If you are doing this because your 4.2 is wearing out or blown, consider rebuilding it instead.  its a FAR better motor than the 4.0.

  3. i'd want to know the reason for that particuliar swap...i'm assuming your engine is blown and you already have a doner vehicle lined up??

if you do then you use the 93 4.0 and the wiring harness that came on it if you have it..but you'd need the computer as well, or you could order one from painless. look on ebay for a ax15 then order an adapter if needed from advanced adapters. to pay a shop to do the swap will cost a pretty penny! i'd say you'd be better off rebuilding the 4.2L
