i recently done my cbt in the uk and looking to do my motorbike test i have booked a direct access course as it was only 40quid or so more. Im lookin for real advice from honest ppl cause im doubting now whether or not i have made the right choice. The cbt went ok ccould have gone slightly better but i passed but my course isnt til september for my full license. Anyone recommend iif ii should do direct access or do a standard license and be restricted for 2 years. I been told the test is exactly the same you just doing it on 500cc instead of a 125cc. Help and advice would be appreciated to which course is recommended. Many Thanks

  1. The test is the same whether you are on 125 or 500.

Personally I think its easier to do it on a bigger bike.

More road presence and more power make them easier to ride.

If you appear to be struggling, a good instructor will spot this and may suggest you moving bikes, but stick with the 500. its worth it in the end!

I had to do my test on a 125......

  2. I did direct access, 3 day course, yes its a bigger bike but the level of training u get is excellent, lots of one to one tutoring, help and advice, in my opinion its the best, and it worked for me!!!

  3. Don't worry too much about it. The test will be booked by the training school & it doesn't matter what bike you turn up on. If your instructor (or you) feel that you are struggling with the big bike they will just  put you back on to a 125 & you can take the standard license test.

Between now & September it would really help if you practice on a 125, you will then find the "big"  bike much easier.

Often it doesn't matter to most people whether they take the direct access or standard test, many people choose not to get a big bike straight away & get a smaller machine that they feel more confident with.
