I wanna transform a baja boat from out to inboard ..is this possible?

i've worked in auto body repair shops im pretty good with fiberglass and welding and makeing things fit...just don't want to ruin my boat for something that isn't possible

  1. This is a major  project.  However, some of the Baja models were designed as outboards and sterndrives.  I would contact Baja directly to get information on your specific year and model.


  2. Probably not.

    Outboards are built with a reinforced transom and are designed to accept thrust from exactly there. They are designed to balance properly both resting (displacement) and running (planing) with the relatively light weight of an outboard situated well aft.

    Inboards require stringers built into the hull to accept the weight and torque of the engine. It is much heavier than and will have to be situated considerably forward of an outboard and will dramatically alter the balance of the boat. They require propshaft, stuffing box, strut and rudder, all of which pierce the hull and need to be carefully designed and built.

    Just buy a new outboard.
