Not looking to spend too much (trying to keep this below $200, if possible). I want a good system. What are some ways of doing this, and what do I need?

  2. 200$ will not even be enough for a mediocre system. You will feel like something is missing. If you want 5.1 on the cheap but still want an amazing sound then look at this Yamaha receiver

    At 249$ it's a good buy

    Their cheapest 7.1 receiver http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/produ...

is 549$ which is a great deal, but stick with the first receiver I mentioned if you want quality at a low price.

For speakers you might find some stores that offer the receiver with a yamaha speaker package, which would be the cheapest way to go.

If you're looking to maybe save up a few bucks and get some higher quality speakers check out the Paradigm Cinema Series.

Hope this helps you. This is my recommendation for a good sounding system without going overboard with the price. My system cost me several thousand $$ so I tried to look for some good equipment keeping in mind that you want to keep it as cheap as possible. I know the stuff I mention here will go higher than 200$ but rest assured you will have a system worth showing off to your friends.
