Question:

I want Invisalign instead of braces!?

I've heard that some people can have Invisalign instead of the usual metal braces and I am scared of having normal braces so I want Invisalign instead. Would you advise it? Does it actually work?

[i am 14 years old and my two front bottom teeth are slightly turned in and the two teeth either side of my two front top teeth are pushed back].

Thanks, in advance. X

  1. I have Invisalign and could not be more pleased with the treatment.  I have minimal pain and the trays are almost completely invisable which was a huge selling point for me since I'm 29 and didnt want a mouth full of metal.  No one ever notices that I have the trays in unless I tell them.  It's great!  The key with Invisalign I think is to have a very good dentist/ortho...one whose honest and experienced enough to get to the results that you both want.  I cant really compare Invisalign to braces as I've never had braces before but Invisalign is totally working for me and I'm actually a complicated case. I'm sure you'll hear from someone here that Invisalign wont treat a complicated case.  When you've got a great experienced dentist and a very devoted patient it absolutely can help complicated cases.  One thing with Invisalign is that it works as well as the patient allows it to.  You must wear your trays for at at least 20-22 hours a day and your dental hygiene has to be a top priority as you have to brush and floss before putting the trays back in after eating EVERYTIME.  It can be a pain but at least you can take the trays out and take proper care of your teeth.  No food getting stuck in brackets and such and NO foods are off limits ever!  If I were you I would make an appointment with your dentist/ortho and see what he says about it.  He/she may decide that tradtional braces will work better in your case.  Invisalign is not magic and you will have some pain but I'm so glad I chose Invisalign over tradtional braces.  Good luck to you!

  2. I have braces, but I think invisalign isn't braces, I have a feeling they are retainers. I don't actually know much about invisalign, but I know my orthodontist offers it. Did your dentist say you actually NEEDED braces? Because if you don't then don't bother getting either. Braces are really really hard to clean, so if you do get braces use a braces toothbrush, mouthwash, and a pick. (your orthodontist will give you a braces toothbrush)

  3. I strongly advise you NOT to get invisalign. That's what I wanted to get instead of braces and I heard that invisalign hurt WAY worse most of the time. It takes longer to align your teeth too, I think. Braces hurt when they are put on but only the ones in the very back. It's very bearable though and if you take good care of them...clean them properly and stay away from the list of bad foods they give you, they'll be off in no time! It was only a year for the top and a year and a half for the bottom for me. You get very used to them. They are a MUCH better choice!
