  1. Yes.  HS is just as real as PS.  Don't expect to just have it completely easy though if you start HS.

There is a big difference though because there isn't all the pressure and bullies and uninterested teachers and cramming.  You'll probably start actually learning and enjoying it if you HS.

Do a lot of research and talk to your parents and school about it.  GL!

  2. if you think high school is stressful - college is worse - are you going to be stressed out at college you end up dropping out - figure out how to manage your stress before you go to college

  3. Of course you can!!! Alot of colleges actually look good at homeschoolers! My college did!!!!

  4. As long as you and your parents keep a good record of all of the work you are doing and the grades you achieve, you should have no problem getting into college.

I've been homeschooled all my life and I've been doing a lot of research on the matter right about now, and it depends on what college you want to attend:  Some don't care, some prefer homeschoolers, and some prefer traditionally educated students.

If you have a particular college that you have your heart set on then you could find out their policies before you decide.

also it helps to find a homeschooling group. It looks good on transcripts, and it keeps you from going stir-crazy :D

Also, some side info, if you live near a community college they usually let homeschoolers go to 1 or 2 classes a semester for college and high school credit. The experienced homeschool moms say that it'll make colleges really interested in you :]]]]

Sorry if this is to much info! I hope some of it helps. Good luck!

  5. hon, DON'T stress, there are alot of colleges that are actively recruiting home schoolers!

  6. Yes you can. Don't worry...

  7. yes you can still go to college! i'm a junior and i do online school and i'm going to get all the credits i deserve! and i definitely plan on going to college.

  8. Yes you can still go to any college, or even university that you want. You'll have to have a GED, or a high school diploma. You may even be able to get pell grants, or a hope grant. Check into FAFSA. FAFSA.ed.gov

  9. It could be a bad idea. . . for most competitive colleges, you'll need a definitive reason for missing that semester.

And you have to ask yourself, what would make college less stressful than high school?

Note:  This is NOT a commentary about homeschooling.  I personally think, if done well and with enough outside social activities, it can be the "right thing to do" for many children.

My question is about leaving school for ONE semester, and the reasons for that.

  10. YOU BET YOU CAN! Just ask my daughter who got into the college of her choice with no trouble at all! Read "What About College?" by Cafi Cohen (I am pretty sure she has a web site too).

We made our own transcripts and charted her hours. She got a scholarship AND federal money AND a Pell Grant for taking advanced classes. No "real" diploma - we bought our own at homeschooldiploma.com and were never asked to show it at the college.

Colleges LOVE homeschoolers as they usually make GREAT, enthusiasic students.

    BE HAPPY!

  11. it depends on the homeschool and some colleges dont accept homeschooled students at all

  12. Colleges love homeschooolers! Just take the high school exit exam, and if you pass, then you're great! I'd definitely recommend homeschooling! Good luck!

  13. If it's just for the one semester, definitely look at independent studies through your school/school district. There can be a lot of hassle in having basic homeschooling credits be recognized, but no problem with the independent studies' credits. It won't affect getting into college. Even if you did your senior year that way, too.

  14. Just make it official that you're homeschooling.  You can certainly get into college.  I know students in the honors program with me who never went to school and were homeschooled all their lives.  They even have graduation ceremonies someplaces.   Getting into a four year college isn't difficult; it does however take much work and planning ahead if you are expecting scholarships.  What will be important in that case is your ACT and SAT scores.

I was homeschooled some in elementary school and I would actually recommend it.  You can homeschool through your senior year even.  I would just make sure you are pushing yourself enough to learn material, but you're right in that it is much less stressful than feeling committed to the demands of so many different teachers, especially if you already have some health issues.  You will probably be more-so prepared for college if you do decide to start homeschooling now because many are so burned out after high school that they feel college is a waste or would rather do other things with their time.

  15. Oh of course you can. Don't let people fool you into thinking college is more stressful. It can be if you overload yourself, but take your time.

All they need to see if some transcripts from your school and homeschool and test scores. That is it. Also if you are stressed you may do better by going to a Community college first to get your feet wet. You can take your time and figure out what you would like to do, also get your undergraduate classes done for a whole heck of a lot cheaper and transfer as a Junior instead of a Freshman, and also just be able to take fun classes and also work at the same time. i wish you luck.

  16. i was homeschooled my whole life before college and now i'm a senior in college. you don't have to get a GED or have a diploma. my mom just made my transcripts and sent them in. mainly they just look at your SAT or ACT scores. don't sweat it. you'll be fine :)

  17. of course you can! just make sure that the college you want to go to is homeschool friendly and that you will be able to transfer CLEP scores and stuff like that.

  18. Yes, especially if you continue next year, during your senior year. Colleges are interested in people from diverse educational backgrounds.

  19. If you are stressed out about high school, college is more of the same, except the points count a lot more.

Unless you have been home-schooled at behest of your parents for most of your life, don't expect colleges to look favorably upon bailing out the last three semesters of high school.  They are going to really really want to know if you were expelled or committed some felony or became pregnant, or were under the care of a psychiatrist.

Find out the source of your stress, and simplify your life.  Anything not directly related to your immediate goal of graduating high school -- jettison.  (Friends, drinking, partying, romance, etc.)
