I found the Diamond Audio S600S ( http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5113_Diamond+Audio+S600S+-HEX+S600+w-+Silk+Dome+Tweeters-.html ) which has some pretty good reviews and is a reasonable price.

Then theres the Focal 165 K2P ( http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_1690_Focal+165+K2P.html ) which has really good reviews but is quite a bit more expensive.

Does anyone know if there is a significant difference in sound between the cheaper stuff and the more expensive stuff? Does anyone have any suggestions on good speakers?

Also, I have read that electronic crossovers are a lot better than passive crossovers. Does anyone know and nice speaker component sets that include electronic crossover? or can anyone give me any tips on crossovers?

  1. anything by BOSE if you can afford it

  2. Polk Momo speakers are really nice and an Eclipse speakers are really good too...there's too many to name

  3. first off you get what you pay for! focal speaks are great. there are a lot of brands and if you go to a store you can usually listen. bring your own music that you listen to and you decide what sounds good to you. as far as crossovers go most seperates come with its own passive crossover and they were desined for the speker they came with so use them! the electronic crossover is usually built into the amplifier and to run seperated you want the amp set to "high pass" that filter out all the bass at a certain frequency so the seperates can play loud without bass distorting them. the passive crossover the directs the high note to the tweeter and the midrange to the midrange speaker.  then have a sub amp set to "low pass" and that does the opposite it filters out everything exept the bass. make sure you listen to thing first because its your ears that are going to listen in you ride. not everyone likes the same thing good luck and enjoy!!

  4. I believe what you are referring to is an active set up compared to a passive set up.  Meaning when the signal's frequencies are crossovers before amplification.  It is a little more work to set up, takes a little bit of tweaking, but the end result will be superior to passive component sets.  In addition, if you do some research and put together a do-it-youself active component set with a quality 4 channel amplifier, it will cost less then a passive component set with a large 2 channel amplifier.  Also, distortion has a lot to do with how your amplifiers are set up gain wise, along with the limits of the speakers and if the amplifier is sending an unclipped clean signal.

  5. I like Harman products. Harman/Kardon, JBL, Infinity... They are pricey but JBL's rock. Listen to the JBL stereo in an '09 Camry. 440 watts. 4 6x9 speakers, and 4 tweeters. Phenomenal system.
