I want TO take SWIMMING CLASS ????????

Hey, i want to take swimming class this year in FRESHMAN year but my mom won't let me because she thinks i will get sick in the winter from the cold water. And water will go up my ears or W.E ETC. ETC.

What SHOULD i say to my mom to convince her into letting me take SWIMMING CLASSES ????

  1. First off, I commend you for wanting to do so.  This is a skill that can save your life.  No other "sport" can claim as such.  This skill is crucial.  Just being on a boat or anywhere near water puts you at risk.  Also, you do learn physics when you learn to swim.  It is  great exercise and when you get old and may need to exercise, it puts far less stress on the body.  If you get married and have kids, you would want to know how to swim for their safety, let alone yours.  Cold water at a pool will not get you sick.  Being cold does not cause illness, viruses and bacteria do.  The pool will also not be cold enough to bring your body into a hypothermic state.  To be reasonable, I would make sure to shower and dry off completely including drying your hair.  This should calm her fears.  Think of it just like taking a shower everyday.  You get wet, you dry off and you do not get sick.  I swam competetively from age 7 to 18 and worked out 6 days a week in high school and was fine.  So are all the rest of the swimmers worldwide.  I even walked home many a time in the snow with wet hair and was just fine.  ---Not that I recommend you do this.  As for your ears, water will not spill into your head.  If you have any problems with swimmers ear, then you need to get some earplugs.  Also, do not pull all of the wax out of your ears.  Wax s there for a reason, to protect the ear.  (I do not mean you should have nasty,crusty ears, just not dig out your natural wax.  Clean the outside only)   I hope she lets you because this is an invaluable skill that you will have for the rest of your life.  Good luck!

    and in the winter the pool is HEATED!!! NO DUH!!!

  4. Simple, take swimming in the spring and in the summer.  

  5. Get a physical and prove to your mom you have the immune system to take it, at the end (after the embarrassingg part) tell the doctor your mom has questions and let her fire away.   Besides to join the High School Swim Team we were required to get a physical
