  1. Of course when most people thing of HDTV they think of huge flat panel LCDs or plasma screens, but I really feel that best HDTV pictures come from CRTs. Unfortunately the best CRT HDTVs are off the market. Sony stopped selling there last models in 2006-2007. I got one of the last 34" models and I love it. It's a 200Lbs monster tube, but the picture is as good as a $4,000 LCD or plasma (IMHO).

But since that's no longer an easy option, I'd have to say you need to just shop around at the stores and see which ones have pictures you like. I don't know the viewing environment so I can't really tell you what size would be best for you. Bigger is not always better, and often a smaller screen size in and LCD or plasma gives you a better picture. Try to get a 1080P model. And if you want long-term durability stick with LCD. They also use a little less energy too.

After you pick the perfect TV, have it adjusted (or calibrated) for the best picture possible for each input. Your TV will look even better after that.

As for sound, TV's really don't have very good built-in sound. To get good audio you'll need some home theater audio system and at least two good full-range speakers.

  2. if money is not a factor than get the biggest model of the pioneer elite.
