I went into Makro today and tried to apply for a card. The sour faced woman told me i had to be part of a business or something?? I work in a shop - won't this do? I tried to apply online there and it said i needed proof of tax invoices and stuff. For gods sake all i want to do is buy a tub of Jelly Belly Beans!!! This is pants. How can i get a card? Is it worthwhile going to Makro - are they good? Grrrr, thanks x*x

  1. They are for trade and only offer trade accounts.  Is it worth the hassle for a tub of jelly beans?  If you know anyone who is self employed such as a childminder or homeworker you might be able to borrow one.

  2. in the Edinburgh branch if you work for the conical it works as well why not phone up the head office I'm sure they will tell you if you work in a shop is OK

  3. I have a makro card and can get you some jelly belly beans if you like????

  4. they are good, but you need to actually have a share or something in a business, i dont think wrking in one qualifies, cos the boss can put you on a card, yeah ask the boss, and makro is pretty good cos they have stuff you want all year round, not just in the seasons.

  5. yeah you need to be part of a business unfortunately, makro is good if you're buying in bulk, the prices are a little confusing as they don't put on the v.a.t till you're at the till, if all you need is jelly babies try a proper sweet shop! i live in leicester and we have ''ye olde sweet shoppe'' and you can buy big tubs of sweets from there, i'm not sure if woolworths sell them too...

other than that, hunt around fro a friend of a friend with a card, you have to sign in, but many a times i have signed in as my grandad without being questioned!

  6. This is a wholesale like Costco yes?

Costco are strict about who they let in as well - again have to be part of a business. I think there is little you can do unfortunately as they are wholesales and they dont want just anyone going in.

  7. you do have to be part of a businessso why dont you just ask your boss to get you one thats what i did to get one!!now i go all the time its great!!!

  8. all you need is a letter on headed paper

    from a company for example.

ask the shop keeper you work for to do you a letter.

thats all you need really then take it in

or just borrow someone elses if its only for jelly beans ... personally i think makro are expensive your better getting your jelly beans offline from an american sweetie site..

    mmmmm jelly belly jelly beans!!!

  9. Makro is a trade only store for people who run their own businesses or are self employed, to start an account you need to have invoices to your business with receipts for at least 2 purchases over £80, plus vat invoices if you are vat registered as they add the vat on that basis.

They are very good, but if you don't work for yourself then you can't join.  Sorry.

  10. I went mad for one for years and am now a self employed childminder and still cant get one! Borrowed one from a friend and was so disappointed - bought nothing as supermarket was cheaper. Ask your boss if you can borrow theirs. You really arent missing much.

Dont know if they have them, but www.aquarterof.co.uk have a selection of old fashioned/sugarfree etc sweets and deliver them. Not overly expensive either.

  11. Why they are no cheaper than anywhere else,as to been business only that doesnt seem to apply to the Belfast branch you will see the world and his wife in there 75% have no legit business conection

  12. you might not like this but you do have to be part of a business and you need to show proof in order to get a makro card.

  13. Yes you do have to be a business, I get their catalogues, unfortunately they are strict and you need proper proof, there are no shortcuts like printing off your own With Compliments slips even as they ask for official documents, sorry.

  14. You're really not missing out on much. Makro used to be fantastic and really cheap but have really lost out because you can buy things so cheap from supermarkets and so on. Def wouldn't go to the hassle of getting membership just for a tub of jellybeans or the odd look round now and then. It really won't benefit you.
