  1. Verdugo has a good response. But if you are looking for a store

in which to buy one, try Home Depot, Lowes, or Wall Mart.  The

Wallmart units start below $100 for a room-size and the other stores mentioned are close in price.  The cheap ones are made in China and may not be repairable.

  2. what kind do you need

  3. Just make sure if you're looking for as room AC that you choose one that is rated for the room size. The cheapest may not be the best one to get. Room A/C's range from 5000 BTU's to 25K BTU's. Usually the packaging will tell you the BTU rating and the recommended size room the A/C will cool. If you buy one too small for the room, the unit will not cool the room and you'll eventually burnout the motor.

  4. Josh, My bro!

You need to give me more info what you want your unit to do. You want your ac unit to cool down the whole house or just a room? It all depends. The best brand to get for a home is carrier ac unit. Make sure, that you keep in mind that you want the higher SEER number for efficiency and lower energy use.  The lower SEER number is less efficient and more energy use. On the long run may pay for itself. I would go for a gas ac unit because you won't have to use the compressor for winter to heat up your home. IF you get a heat pump it means that your compressor has to work to heat up your house, and that means less life on your ac unit, so the best way is to go for a gas unit. IF you just want a single ac window unit. just make sure that if the room is 17 feet by 15 feet, is actually the average size of rooms. Then, you wanna get a 17,000 btu capacity ac unit. Remember the higher the SEER number for eficiency is better. It is more expensive to buy but on the long run is well worth it. GOOD LUCK!

  5. Portable air conditioners can start any where from $150  to $450 depending on the features; Btu, EER, Window With, Comfort, Brownout, Noise, Ease of use, and Air direction, lots of variation to take into consideration
