I'm going to ask my dad again if i can get a cat, but, how do you care for a cat exactly? And do they use the bathroom everywhere even if you do have a litter box for them? Also, what do they sleep on or in? Do they chew on wires? Because i have alot of electronics at house. (hopely it the cat stays away from the ps3 and wii-.-")Thanks ^-^

  1. it sounds like you are really uneducated about cats. You need to do your research before even approaching your father otherwise you will just sound foolish. It is important to do research before bringing a new pet home so that you are fully prepared for the responsibility of owning and caring for it.

  2. You will need the following for a cat:

    Litter Box

Litter to go in the box (I like small spaces litter)

    Food dish

Food to put in the dish

    Water Dish

Water to put in the dish (I use bottled water because its better than tap)

    Toys

    Collar and ID tag

    Love

    Patience

    Understanding

When you bring the cat home the first thing you want to do is put them in the litter box (make sure there is litter in it first). Cats are pretty smart and get the hang of it. If they p**p or pee on the floor, scold them and put them immediately in the litter box. Most cats take to the litter box immediately, although my kitten had to be reminded twice.

Let the cat explore its surroundings without interfering (although its fun to watch). They may hide at first, but as they get at ease with you and their home they will find their favorite spots. Make sure you have food and water for them (do not place it near their litter or they won't eat) - its best if the food and water is in a separate room or across from it in a big room.

Cats will sleep anywhere... your bed, your chairs, on top of the TV, on the window sill, in your lap, anywhere they can get comfortable. Mine enjoys sleeping in clothes I leave on the floor (go figure). They will eventually adopt favorite areas to sleep so if you're looking for them look for them in those spots.

Cats will chew on anything that looks like a string. You could use a water bottle to train them to keep away from certain areas, but its usually better to make sure any wires you have are put up or put away. The PS 3 and the Wii can be out while you're playing but its probably best to make sure it all put away to avoid your cute little four legger accidentally electrocuting himself or choking on something.

Most cats love lots of affection petting and fussing over. Others will come to you when they want love. Cats love to look out windows and they love being up high. A cat house will help them be high up, and if you have stairs, expect them to become a race track.

I would contact the ASPCA or your local shelter when looking for a kitten. Even if that kitten is 1 or 2 years old, they are still adorable and need good homes. The shelters are cheaper than pet stores also (by about 200 dollars) and most shelters microchip the cats so you can find them if they become lost.

    Good luck!

  3. If I were you I would cat a cat from the pound so it would be experienced with the litter-box. I would get it about 5 months or so. They sleep anywhere they want so I would get a cat bed and keep it on the ground. I have 8 cats and they sleep in the basement sometimes I can't find them. My kitten had babies on her 1st birthday and they learn how to use the litter-box on their own. My cats are all 1 year or older now. if you get a baby cat get TONS of books on them.

  4. They shouldn't pee everywhere in the house as long as they know where the litter box is. They shouldn't chew on wires, either :) They'll sleep pretty much anywhere..some cats prefer those little cat beds, and some just sleep under the bed, on the couch, or on the floor. cats sleep a lot, so they don't really care.

Anyway, check out this site, it has some useful information on it: http://www.catsinfo.com/kittens.html

Btw; I love the answer above me too!

Good luck with the new kitty, if you get it<3

  5. Well so much for researching before you get a pet. You need at least $1500 ready for the first year of the cat's life. With baby cats you never know. Most of the time it takes a week or so before they start to use a litter box. So you may end up with stains on your carpet. They will chew on exposed wires while they are teething.

You have some some serious research (5 to 10 hours) before you can consider getting a cat. They are a ton of research as little ones and a big hassle. You need to play with them for an hour a day for them to develop healthy.

Please do your research before you ask your dad. They take a lot of time and money.

  6. I assume since you are asking again he has already said no. I would recommend rather that asking here how to care for a cat that you research it. Look online or even better get some books from the library. This will show your dad you are serious about wanting to properly care for a cat and will also put you well on your way to being a responsible pet owner by researching before you get it. However if your dad says no again. Respect his decision and let it go, wait until you are living own your own and can afford to pay for your cats care on your own.

  7. Don't forget to do a lot of research *before* getting a kitten!

To take care of a cat you need toys, food, dishes, litter, litter box, and if it's an outdoor cat get a collar and ID tag. They also wouldn't mind lots of love and pats :)

Yes cats need a litter box to go to the bathroom in, you have to train them to use it and scoop the p**p out of the box as often as possible. It's good to change the litter maybe about every 2 weeks or so.

They'll sleep just about anywhere like on the couch, on your bed, or a sunny spot on the floor. But they would probably sleep in a cat bed if you got one.

Yus they might chew on wires, my cat has a few times.
