  1. i had one i had to get a big piece of vinyl to put down under his cage. they pee out of the corner of the cage. i moped it daily. but it was messy. she was sweet she would lay in my arms like a baby for hours. that is the only rabbit ive ever seen do that. i love animals but i just couldn't keep up with the mess it was more than i bargained for i had to find her a good home i still check up on her from time to time. i also have had a ferret for 3 years and can keep it really clean she was really stubborn about litter training so i tried everything a cardboard box cut into 4 pieces makes her 4 litter box's.

  2. Bunnies are bad unless they are kept out side. They poo on the carpet, chew on stuff (furniture, doors, electrical cords), dig holes in carpets, etc... Get a cat or a dog they are much smarter and can be trained. They also destroy less stuff and they cuddle.

  3. All rabbits smell. Some have a stronger odor than others, but they all have a distinct rabbity smell. Personally, I prefer the smell of rabbits to the smell of cats or dogs since rabbits don't eat meat.

I think Flemish Giants are usually around 15-20 pounds and around two feet long, but you should probably research this on your own.

If your dad doesn't like animals, I don't think buying the biggest rabbit you can find is the best option. Caring for a happy rabbit requires involvement from the whole family, even if it is your rabbit. Mini lops are adorable and require less space than a Flemish Giant.

While we're on the topic of space, you should take into account the space you have available. Indoors is the best place for a bunny, but if you plan on keeping your rabbit in a cage, a hamster or guinea pig may be a better option. Most bunnies are happiest when they are able to roam the house (or a room or two) freely.

Try visiting http://www.rabbit.org/ to read about what it takes to keep a rabbit (rabbit-proofing the house, potty training, et cetera.) It's a lot of work, but knowing your stuff makes things a lot easier for you and a lot safer for your rabbit.

  4. Well, rabbits are naturally clean animals. It is instinct to not have their scent around to not be traced by predators. So they will l**k themselves quite a bit to make sure they won't attract predators. They will find one spot in their cage where they will go potty. Once you find where they do, they stick to it. You can simply put a litter pan down and they will use the litter pan. Yes, I had 9 rabbits at the same time and they all did it. They require alot of chew toys though because they have to keep their teeth short. Sticks, rabbit chew toys are a must. If their teeth get too long, they can't eat and well, self explanatory. The flemish giant is a large rabbit, about the size of your typical house cat in weight. Rabbits don't require 24/7 attention as they are naturally not fond of human companionship, and can take care of themselves for the most part, but they can and do get used to you. They need to be accustomed to everyday noises and people so they will get used to it and not be so jumpy. Remember, rabbits are naturally prey animals so they are not very trusting of anything they don't know. If you want a good excuse, just tell him how relatively simple they are to take care of, they do not stink, (only their cage will if not cleaned regularly), they are quiet, except for the occasional water bottle ticking and hopping around their cage once in awhile. So they are actually a low maintenance, quiet, clean, playful pet.

  5. If you want a Flemish "bunny," you're better off getting a dog! Flemish Giant Rabbits can grow to be over the size of a small dog (15-20 lbs) and need a HUGE amount of cage space and out-of-cage exercise to live happily and healthily. However, they are extremely gentle and would make a good first bunny to a responsible owner, but if you just want one because of their cuteness and need an excuse to convince your father, I advise against getting any pet while under your dad's guardianship..

Any animal will smell if its living conditions are not adequately and frequently cleaned, and a rabbit is no exception.

My advice: if you want a bunny badly, do the research and show your father that you are responsible and serious enough to ensure a happy, healthy home to an animal. No excuse necessary.

Best of luck, hope this helps!

  6. They only smell if you don't clean out their cage!!  The flemish bunny you want to get is really called Flemish Giant.  It is the largest rabbit breed.  It is a min. of 14 pounds and there is no max weight.  Also if you want to look up more rabbit breeds go to arba.net.   Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!
