I have been asking for my own computer/laptop in my room 4eva but I seriously understand why I didn't get it when I was 11 or 12 or evan 13 but I am going to high school and I really think I need something I can do reports and research on in my "study area" My parents are kinda overprotective...again understandable they want to keep me safe. I just don't know how to ask...O and we have a family computer but I am like the only one who uses it more then once a month. How do I ask them (We have a extra computer in storage its crappy but it works)

  1. 13 is still a bit too young; many young girls and boys get into conversations on myspace and other sites and they think they're talking to someone their own age and in some cases, they are talking to a predator, much older than they are, and then they give out all this personal information and sometimes even go so far as to make plans to meet, VERY bad idea, and your parents want to monitor your time on the PC, which I agree with. It may be seriously annoying to you now, but honestly, in a few more years you can probably get your own and keep it in your room.

  2. they might think you just want it to look at p**n or something... they could be right

  3. If you already have a computer that mostly only you use, then whats the problem?  Before you ask you parents again, ask your self if you are being reasonable about what you are asking for.  It sounds like to me that you don't really need another computer, you just want one in your room for the privacy when you are doing your school work.  If this is true, then explain it to them.  If it is reasonable, they may say yes.

  4. you don't need a computer in your room if  you are only doing school reports....  you can use the family computer.

  5. Make up a list of pros and cons to having a computer in your room. Be honest, don't leave obvious things out of the cons or they'll catch it. Then you can show them how having a computer in your room will improve your marks and be more beneficial than harmful to you.

If they are reluctant you can try to convince them further. There is a way to set internet access on a timer. You could agree to have it set so you will lose internet access at 10 or something and only keep it on later for school reasons. Try using this as a suggestion for in case you mess up rather than something to be used right away. You could also agree to let them check your history to make sure you haven't been visiting 'naughty' sites or chat rooms. You'll actually have to not visit those sites or learn how to manipulate your history though.

If they still don't agree ask for their reasons against you having a computer in your room. Then work on negating their specific arguments.

  6.   Remind them you can set it up so they are the administrators and will have complete access to your viewed history and and all content.

That should put their minds at ease. Good Luck

  7. tell them to stop trying to shield you from the real world, ask them to give you some space so it will be easier to get your school work done.

  8. Well, I think your parents are just being protective. But since U R in high school... OK!!! I think U need one. U R totally old enough.
