  1. It depends on the set up you plan on using. If you plan on keeping it in a bowl like you do a betta, you might try a Gourami.

There are some pretty cool Gourami to choose from and like Betta's, they are labyrinth fishes so they can breath oxygen from the surface.

I wouldnt get an African Knife fish not becasue they are not cool, it's that they spend most of thier day inside a tube agenerally only come out at night. ornate bichar's are cool looking.

  2. The dinasur eels( Polypterus senegalus) are very interesting critters, and a couple of years ago I too wanted one, untill I researched and found that they grow really big. They can wiegh over a pound and grow longer than your arm. At that time a had a smaller aquarium.

Click on this site about them, very interesting......

  3. Well remember to research, all these fishes have different needs any the ones other than Betta's you just listed need at least 50 gallons of water, so small cool fish include african dwarf frogs (I know, not a fish, but still really cool) They are fully aquatic and eat frozen blood worms. Endlers live bearers are cool, they are the wild version od guppies and look very pretty!A dwarf gourami is also a cool fish. If you have the money for a 50 gallons tank, a knife fish, or an elephant nose fish would work! If you can have 125+ gallonsyou can get an arowana!!
