  1. Volunteer at your local shelter and prove that you are worthy while helping out animals in need.

  2. How responsible are you?

Do you do the chores that they ask you to do?

    What are your grades like?

Try to convince them by your actions at home and school.  Stay on the straight and narrow path.  Don't whine.

Ask if you can help in extra ways, you know vacuuming, dishes, lawn, etc.

Then bring the topic up slowly, and try to remind them of all the things you have been doing.

In the mean time, you don't say how old you are, but you may be able to help at a shelter to get experience or ask a friend who has a dog if you can help care for it for experience (walks feeding etc)

Finally, save some money, dogs cost money to own. You'll need license, food bowls and let's not forget the vet.

I wish you well...this is how I got my first dogs many years ago and I own three and they are well behaved therapy dogs and get to go many places with me and have helped me to stay unstressed!

    Best Wishes,

    Pat

  3. Firstly, I'd show my dependability by doing chores (extra if you are already doing them), no talking back or sarcasim and just being generally nice and considerate. This may not be what you want to hear, but in order to own your own dog you have to be dependable and responsible.

  4. A dog probably does sound fun at this point.  However they're a lot like kids, the responsibility what not.  You have to be prepared to potty train one, and until trained clean up their messes in the house.  And general training, need to research a good place to take your pup to learn "manners".  Plan on every time you go anywhere finding someone to take of pup.  Of course, vet visits, regular shots, SPAYING/NEUTERING when big enough (or old enough), grooming and walking your pup twice a day or one long walk once.  Sure, they follow you around (when trained) and seem so fun but they are a HUGE responsibility.  Just like a child, why I've never owned a dog myself.  My mom's a dog owner (not a very good one at that) but I prefer cats.  Easier to deal w/-  easily litter-trained, go away leave lots of food and water out, and INDEPENDENT!!!  Same vet visits, etc, but not always monthly heartworm meds and easy.  Of course some people prefer dogs to cats and opposite and everyone is entitled to their personal choices but on ease of care I'd say cats win every time.  But beyond all that,  dogs are difficult and how are stress levels helped when frustrated w/ a puppy?  Small dog p**p, easy.  Big dog?  Maybe you can talk to your parents about adopting a dog from an animal shelter who's already been trained (funny thing giving a trained dog to shelters but still a responsibility some people don't want {and yes I'm one of them to those who will get angry reading}) and give him a good home.  Just be ready.  Dogs are fun and great companions, and I wish you luck in your endeavor.

  5. Firstly, dogs are a lot of responsibility. You need to brush them, wash them, feed them, walk them and give them a lot of attention, but if you think you are up to it there are a few things you can to do prove to your parents that you are ready to take on this responsibility.

When you commit to getting a dog, the whole family has to want one. If your parents hate dogs, it will never work. Dogs are a very big responsibility. No matter how much you cry and beg, it's not going to help your parents and change their mind about getting a dog. It is mainly the parent’s decision about whether you are getting a dog or not, since it is their money you will be spending.

Try telling your parents that you are growing older and are ready to take on some more responsibility. If they say no, don’t go off crying or stomping your feet, that doesn't show them that you are responsible. Maybe you could offer to dog-sit a friend's dog while they go away on holiday to show your parents just how much you want this.

Most parents don’t want to get a dog because they believe that the novelty will wear off and they will be stuck looking after the dog, so make sure your whole family wants the dog, not just you. Dogs also require a lot of training, so you better be up for the challenge. Don’t let this be one of those times where you get a dog, but you find that you cant take care of it so you dump it at the shelter. You have to be 100% committed.

Basically, the best thing you can do to prove to your parents that you are responsible is to… You guessed it, be responsible. Get your homework done, get good grades, do some chores. Don’t continually ask about it. If your parents say no, then maybe wait a year and try really hard at proving you are responsible. Good luck and I hope this helps. =)

  6. you could try doing alott of research.. or you could always cry or show the cutest  dog they like thats sitting at a shelter.

    good luck.

  7. well, i have had the same problem.

ask them their reason on why they wouldn't want you to have one.

and prove them wrong about there reason or ask how you can prove you can take care of one.

  8. Tell them that you are responsible enough to take care of a pet.

  9. Get a goldfish. If theres so much turmoil in your life, then having a demanding pet won't help.
