And I have been leaving my mom hints about it but she keeps saying we can't get one because they are to restricting....Like she wants to travel and we like never do though...She goes on some road trips w/ her bf every now and then but you can bring a dog wit you on those. How can I convince her to let us get one...Everyone including her bf love dogs and think its a good idea...

  1. try bringing a puppy home and see her reaction. my guess is that you will have a 99% chance of keeping it. I was in the same situation and brought a Boxer puppy home one day and my mom just melted and fell in love with him right away. But if your mom is really really really stubborn about it, it may not work. Most people who breed dogs will take the puppy back because they want them to go to good homes, just make sure they know your plan and let them know there is a small chance it will be coming back before you buy it, but that is highly unlikely.

  2. you can bring a dog on a road trip, but its extra stress, work and expence..  and not all dogs enjoy travel... it is stressful to the dog.  Its also hard to plan things to do when you have a dog in tow.. you cant leave it in the vehicle, and most hotels dont like for you to leave the dog unattended in the room.

Your mom may just not be ready for the responsability and cost of owning a dog.

  3. Get a different pet!  Maybe a hamster, fish, guinea pig, etc.

  4. Sorry - your mom is right. Being a single mom - bf or not - is difficult enough. You are 13 and able to care for the dog right now, but what happens when you go to high school next year and want to go out on weekends, and will be gone for long hours during the day? Do you understand that new puppies need to be taken outside every 2 hours day and night? Are you prepared to clean up all of the "accidents"? All of the responsibility falls back on mom. Do you know that, on average, the cost of getting a new dog is over $1200 during the first year - and that doesn't include the price of the dog! It's difficult to explain to someone so young, but until you are able to work and pay for it, don't force your mom to do something she is not comfortable with.

The fact that you already have a 2 year old cat that is not properly socialized makes me wonder if you or your mom are truly prepared to take on another animal.

And a pug - are you crazy?? They are super high energy, have severe breathing problems (this will cost you even more!), and they are very difficult to train. I've only known a few pug owners who are actually happy with the breed. You may want to rethink this whole dog thing and prove to your mom that you can handle it by working hard on training your cat for the next six to eight months.

  5. These questions really do get annoying you know. You shouldn't argue with your parents.

Who would pay the vet bills? (Shots & Emergency visits)

Who pays for the gas to get to the vet?

Who would pay for the food?

Who would pay for toys, treats, etc.?

Now, who would take most of the responsibilty?

If you can't afford all of this on your own, then just drop this and think of a different pet you could have other than a dog or cat.

  6. well tooooooo bad. Mom makes the rules. She said no dog that means no freaking dog. You can drop hints all you want, but the final call is and will be until you move out your mother's.

ADD: secondly have you ever been on a road trip with a dog? No? Then don't assume that you can just take the dog along and everything will be peachy keen.

Doesn't matter what everyone else thinks. She doesn't want one and why should you or anyone else try to change her mind. No offense but its very selfish and annoying on your part to keep bothering her about something she has already  given you an answer on.

ADD2: That still leaves mom to pay for vet bills routine and emergency, training, and if your state requires it yearly registration of the animal.  Please explain WHY you have to have this dog right now and not 5 years from now when you are out on your own?
