  1. Well if you're going to buy a cat or dog, don't buy from a breeder and don't buy from a pet store! Go to a shelter! In some shelters over 40 animals get put down per day! If you could save just one of them from that fate you'd be a hero to that dog/cat! If you don't find a perfect animal the first time you go there, go in the next day and the next day etc. or the next week etc. until you find your perfect pet at a SHELTER!

Again, Shelter. Not breeders or pet stores!

Also if you want to know more specifically what type of breed you may be looking for, google it for different breeds, it can help you find the type of dog that suits you all best, or the kind of dogs personality you want etc,

    Best of Luck!

  2. Go to the shelter... go every week until you and your family find the prefect pet to complete your family!!!

    DONT SHOP ADOPT!!!

  3. I live on a 10 acre farm...

check out this link to a cool farm animal you probably havent considered

because I have one, I do not need a dog!

  4. rabbits can make realy good family companion animals. They are social and sweet. And cute too. No one can resist a bunny.

  5. going to the shelter or humane society is a great idea. there are a ton of homeless animals that get put down just because no one picked them out in time. there are a lot of things to consider, for instance do you have children in the house and how old are they? is the dog going to be inside or out? used for hunting or protection? do you want a dog thats a little more wild and loves to run, or is that too risky for the area you are in? i would say that the best kind of dog for a farm that can be both fun outside and well mannered inside is a golden retriever. i know it's a little cliche, but they are great with kids, very loyal and protective, and extremely obediant. if you are an inexperienced dog owner, even though they are a little big, this would be an easy dog for you to train and it would offer a lot of love. great danes, st. bernards, labs and rottweilers offer similar personality traits, but may be a little more high strung, though they are a lot of fun. i've personally had a few negative experiences with dalmations being a little snippy, and have seen them bite the hand that feeds them- literally- but it always depends on the personality of the particular dog. if you are worried about them taking off on an overly-long run, i wouldn't suggest a husky, b/c they like to take off and may get picked up. if you do, just make sure they're registered to you. i also wouldn't suggest this breed if you have chickens, b/c you may end up with a few of them "hunted". keep in mind that pure-bred dogs often have more health problems than mixed breeds. take your time getting to know the animal (i know it's exciting, but visit 2 or 3 times over a couple days), and remember if you go to the humane society, that they have a little background check process and all that so it'll take a few days. if you're getting a cat and you're not superstitious, many people don't like to get black cats, so they rarely get adopted out, and usually put down, even though they're sweet. if you get cats, like barn cats.....MAKE SURE YOU SPAY AND NEUTER THEM!!!!! i can't stress that enough. if you don't you will be up to your earlobes in kitties;) have fun finding your addition!
