Question:

I want a ferret ...Convincing my mother?

I've been wanting a ferret for the past three years! I'm 14 i have a job, i have enough money already to get the ferret and food (already have a cage). At the moment i own a cat, a rabbit and a mouse ( i also have a dog but he doesn't live with me anymore). My mum owns 3 budgies (her pets). I take care of my animals, and i know i can afford to pay for their food and vet bills if needed (i've done all my research).

My problem is my mum said no, come to me in a few years. What's the difference? Does she think all my pets are going to die by than or something? I don't get it.

She told me her concern is money, and when i told her i have the money and i also have a job she just said well i don't know.

Any suggestions on how to convince her?

Please don't reply saying their bad pets and a waste of money, i've done all my research and know everything about them.

  1. Well, what kind of cage do you have? Most cages for ferrets cost hundreds of dollars. They need HUGE cages. Your mom is probably saying no because you have so many pets. I would just wait, save even more money, and get it later. I wanted a ferret, but I settled with a hamster instead. :P

  2. So, you're ready to drain your bank account? I've spent about $650 on my ferret already, and I haven't even had her for a month yet! The vet bill will probably make it about $700-$800. I'm not saying it's not worth it because it is- just making sure you're willing to spend that much.

Now, my second question is what kind of cage is it? Just curious because you have a mouse and I wanted to know how you ended up with the cage, and if you'd be using something suitable for a mouse, but whatever.

Okay, you can make all the posters, projects, essays, etc. you want, but they really don't phase my parents. What got to my mother was when I decided I was going to get a turtle instead but they didn't have any. I looked at the ferrets and fell in love with a little champagne sprite. Mom looked at me holding her and really couldn't split us up. She saw how I interacted with the ferret. Mom already had in her head I was getting another pet ( a turtle), so it wasn't that big of a deal to her at the moment. Good luck with convincing- ferrets may be good at emptying your wallet but they're worth it in my book!

  3. I have read some of your answers and I think you have done a good deal of research. But awlays do more. It cant hurt..

Heres a site that I went to. It helped me out a lot.

But if I were you I would keep taking Great care of the pets you have now. And dotn ask you mom about a ferret for a week or two. Type up everything you know and have learned. And present it to her. Plus you will need atleast $100 0 to start off with. So make sure you have it. Call and find a good Vet. Show your mom how you can prepare for another pet (ferret). And dont bug her. This will just make her stand her ground even more. And try to gelp out around the house A LOT! And pick out the food and litter you would use. MAke kinda like a budget plan.

I was 13 when I got my first ferret. And I did all these things. Im 19 now. I live on my own and have 8 ferrets.

I hope it helps, I know it did for my mom.

***Oh and come check out this forum (I am a member myself). You can ask questions all you want. But I suggest NOT asking how to get your mom to say yes. You will get some people who dont think younger kids should have pets. BUt thats their opinion, so you cant get made if you ask.

  4. i don't know i tried with my mom and my dad,my mom said NO!! and my dad said i don't want rats in the house

  5. hey my name is trish, i got 2 ferrets myself, they are not a whole lot of money, the special ferret food can be expensive at times but otherwise its all in buying the ferret themselves, if you have money, and will take care of it right, and make sure the cage is cleaned, its hard to keep up with 2 of them lol, then i would keep talking to your mom about it, dont pestor her though, they can make it worse lol good luck, your friend trish
