  1. Just reseach the fish you want and tell them about the good thing about having fish. Thats what i do.

  2. Do your research first.

Get some library books, read web sites and fishkeeping forums. Print out the interesting articles.

That way you can show your parents that a: you know how to care for a tank and b:  it's not just a whim that you will get sick of next week and leave the tank for them to look after.

If you are keen to keep fish, then it's a great hobby for a kid. It's quite simple to care for fish tanks IF you do it right, but easy to stuff up if you do things wrong.

The 'secret' is to set up the tank properly and care for the tank. After the tank is established and 'cycled' then it simply needs water changes and basic cleaning = easy. Get yourself a decent tank, forget those 'beginner' things under 5gals. Get something 15--20gal, easier to care for, wont cost much more, and actually has room for a few interesting fish. Heater, a decent power filter and a light and you are good to go.

    Good Luck

  3. Fish:

-are relatively inexpensive (depending on if you want just a bowl or a tank)

    -take up very little space

    -dont smell

    -dont make noise

-dont need attention (other than being fed daily and changing tank water monthly)

    -can be left alone

    -AWESOME PETS!

  4. they are more likely to say yes if they are confident you know what you are doing and whats involved, how much it costs to buy and maintain. Do lots of research so they will know you are serious and its not a fad.

    Good luck! fish are great!

  5. just prove to them tht ur responsible and will takke care of the fish.

  6. just do smooth talk like saying i a;ready have the money

  7. I am reading that you want your parents to say yes about the fish. (not that the fish and your parents say yes are two separate ideas, since the question wasn't clear)

There are two ways to approach the subject:

1.Write a report on the benefits of having the fish, show information as to how it improves your life and how it teaches you responsibility, you may also include a contract showing you will be the only person caring for the fish and that you are willing to work to earn the money to purchase the fish tank, etc.

    2. Get everything you need and bring it home and set it up in your room. Make sure you don't buy anything huge, chances are they will see you are taking good care of it and they will let you keep it.

  8. youd better do alot of research on fish before you decide to buy one. do you know how much work is involved? do you know how to cycle a tank? do you know you have to do 25% water changes once a week? do you know how large of a tank you will need to buy? as well as a filter, and depending on species a heater?

  9. Prove to them that you will take care of it. Research some info on the internet or books.

I have too many just prove to them you can take care and will take great care with it.

  10. First tell them you want a dog.

Then (after you are turned down flat) ask for a cat.

After the cat gets turned down look really pitiful, sigh, and then say you will settle for a fish.

Maybe they will feel bad for you.

Also explain to them that fish will never bother them or pee on the carpet.

How can they say no to that?

  11. WOW total flashback!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... that what my mom said i sat with her and told her y i want one and then how much i loves her to butter her up hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  12. So research different kinds of fish and decide which one you want.  They don't all have the same requirements.

  13. Hi Thomas,

How old are you?? I can suggest you what kind of fish would be good to take care of and how much money are you looking at. Also, what kind of fish are you thinking of?? Would you keep up with water changes every week and would you able to take out time to take care of them??? Answer these questions and I will EDIT...

  14. tell your parents you want a pet and some resposibility for it and say you want a dog or cat then list all the negitive things about those pets ( oppisite of the this list that i listed for fish)  then say i got it i want a fish because fish are

-are relatively inexpensive (depending on if you want just a bowl or a tank)

    -take up very little space

    -dont smell

    -dont make noise

-dont need attention (other than being fed daily and changing tank water monthly)

    -can be left alone

    -AWESOME PETS!
