Question:

I want a free...? How about you?

What do you think when people place wanted ads saying I want a free...

Whether it be a purebred/mutt/big/small dog or any other animal?

I know there are worse things in the world but it absolutely ticks me off when people state their wanted ads in this manner.

It is one thing to take a free animal but to exclude every animal that won't be given to you is just absurd.

Besides that I just get this nauseating feeling that they woke up one morning and were like well hmmm....I want a.... and they haven't prepared for it at all.

I am by no means rich but when I decided what kind of dogs I wanted I actually purchased them because I wanted to make sure I would be able to meet more than one and be able to pick a personality I liked in that specific breed (we have adopted mutts as well though). I do understand people searching for a purebred they want from someone who doesn't want theirs anymore just so they save a little money but to demand it for free....It makes me mad.

I took time in searching for my dogs and deciding the kind I wanted and everything else. Still now I do not have a lot of money and no I couldn't drop 400 dollars on another dog if I saw one this minute I wanted but if I decided to get another I would save the money like I did the last time.

I save money to go to the vet. I know I need to make a vet appt. a month in advance and I put aside money from each check. I am a pet owner on a budget but am proud to say that my animals are important enough to be included in my budget.

I've gone off on a rant but seriously it makes me so mad that people aren't even willing to pay at least a shelter fee for an animal. How do you feel about it?

  1. I think its good you got it off your chest.Hope you feel some sort of relief. But it will not change the world or any body in any way.

As for how I feel about it=who cares? I am more concerned with how they treat there pet or how to help them to treat or care for it better.Where or how they got it is of no importance to me.Tilks Mom

  2. What ticks me off is that someone has the nerve to even ASK this question WITHOUT including:

"I am willing to work or help you out in some way in exchange for the price of the puppy".

  3. I agree with you and think that your rationale is well thought out.  One suggestion though, check into pet insurance.  It helps with the Vet bills. I think that as a pet owner, I should not live beyond my means and have only as many pets that I can afford, be it a mutt or a pure bred. Demanding a pet for free is unreasonable and uncivil, especially, when the foster person is paying for all the food, shots, Vet bills, etc.  I know of many pet rescues and that they reimburse the foster person for many of these expenses, but, many foster people still pay out of pocket.

  4. I TOTALLY agree.

It really gets me P.O.'d. If they can't even afford an initial price, how will they be able to afford all the vet bills and supplies? They won't. And what's worse, these people are most prone to going to BYBs (pet stores are too expensive) for a dog, because BYBs are a TON cheaper than a well-bred, quality puppy, and BYBs LOVE cheap impulse buyers.

What's even MORE annoying is that they'll say things like "I really want a cute purebred yorkie before or on my birthday. Oh, and it has to be free and 'teacup' size."

I think people that aren't willing to pay for a well-bred (or rescue fee) dog from a good breeder aren't really dedicated to their dog. They care more about their pocketbook.

    It's nauseating, really.

  5. As long as they give the dog a good home what does it matter if they paid for it or got it free. If someone has to get rid of their dog due to moving or other reasons I'd rather see them give it away free to someone that will give it a good home rather than take it to a shelter where it might be put down. They have to determine what is right for them and how they get their dog and you have to determine what is right for you. I respect the person that gives the dog a good and loving home whether they paid for the dog or got it free. That shouldn't even matter!
