my friend said she knew someone who got 1TB for £50, but she's gone abroad so i can't ask where from.

Whats the difference between brands and are they all the same speed when it comes to up and downloading??

  1. Take a look at this webpage they are very good

  2. They're definately not all the same - some have faster spindle speeds (i.e. 7200rpm against 5400rpm), and some have bigger buffers to give much better sustained read/write speeds. Pick a well-known name even if you have to accept a lower capacity - what are you going to fill 1TB of space with anyway ;-)

Have a look at Pixmania http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/793/xx/x... and then see if you can Google a review on your short-list of hard-drives - computer magazine sites often do comparisons for example http://www.pcpro.co.uk/labs/159/christma...

  3. hi mate

external hard drives have dropped in price over the last 12 months for example the 160GB DarkStar External Fast USB2/E-SATA Drive is just £39.89 inc. VAT from http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component... this is about as cheap as they come, you will not find a 1tb external(or internal) hard drive for less than £50 anywhere in the uk

the highest capacity external hard drive you will find is the 500GB DarkStar External Fast USB2/E-SATA Drive (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component... is £55.17 inc. VAT and is actually great value, its also a ideal back up solution

                 good luck mate !

  4. Try P C World

    http://www.pcworld.co.uk

    They have this one :

    AKASA

    AK-ENP2SATA-BKUK

BLACK EXTERNAL ENCLOSURE FOR 3.5" SATA HARD DISK DRIVE

    Standard Delivery £4.95

Its the cheapest one they have but take a look on their website.

I got my 320gb one from PCWorld, last year,..and it cost me £80.

It's very reliable,..and i haven't had any problems with it ,...yet! (fingers crossed!;)

I don't think there us any difference between different brands, but i would got for something that will last in the long term.
